Truly Dreadful Film
A different way of telling a story
It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Right from the first scene, the movie is very poorly executed. Director should have opted for a nice thriller with this theme. But, he spoiled it and we bear the brunt. Only good thing watchable in this pathetic movie is the good performance of Famke Janssen. Except her, none of the other actors bother to perform. A very big disappointment.
100 Feet is the wrong movie to be watching at night time, trust me on this one. It is well written, has great acting, and great dialogue. Despite the tiresome amount of films that have gone in this direction, this one stands out from them all. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who dares to be frightened, because the probability of this scary flick freaking you to pieces is pretty high! A woman is let out early from prison, but at a high cost: She must reside in the same house that she murdered her husband in, who happened to be a violent cop. His partner happens to be the man who is more then anxious to put her back in prison, so he waits patiently in his car parked across the street, waiting for her to violate her probation. She has an ankle bracelet attached to her ankle (hence the name), and is instructed not to go past 100 feet of the house, or the alarm will go off. Goes off for longer then three minutes, and she's automatically going back to jail. Not too hard to do, right? HEH, the plot thickens. The house she's living in is possessed by a poltergeist, and it just happens to be the husband she killed in self defense. And he is powerful and angry as ever!!! Her survival skills must be put to play, however, what defense do you have against something that is not in human form? Can it even be stopped? Even if her probation officer believes her story that she is being violently stalked by her dead husband, how can he protect her from this savage entity? There are long, boring sequences, but bare with it, and trust me, the rewards come later. By the first half hour, she knows what is going on. The last half hour is when the really good stuff happens, and I'm talking...jump out of your skin, "Oh my God!", freaky , weird , crazy, messed up stuff. I'm not revealing too much, because it will spoil the story, and I sure do not want to spoil the ending. If you like your movies scary, you're in for a treat....which is long overdue these days. Fantastic film!
First of all the only good acting was done by Famke Janssen (Marnie Watson) otherwise the acting was horrid, (Shanks) played by Bobby Cannavale did poorly. The special effects looked like they were made off a high schooler's iPad. The Story had potential, it was a good sounding plot, fairly unique but the movie failed to deliver. The characters were not believable, and the writer did not do their research well. For one, I could never imagine a lady like Famke sleeping with a grocery delivery boy who she has 20 years on. The murdered cops partner would not be allowed to handle the case nor be in charge of an electronic monitoring system, And if I ever saw what I thought was a ghost, I would not care if I was on house arrest, I would be sitting on that front porch. The ending.... hmm, the whole ending sequence was bad, again, the CGI was bad, the part where Joey fell through the ceiling was good, but when Michael Pare (The Ghost) came out, it got stupid, Cannavale's character acted poorly as a hurt person, it was very dramatic and cheesy. The whole ring throwing scene was embarrassing. I don't know, I've been watching horror movies for 27 years, big fan of the genre, I read user reviews for this movie and decided to give it a chance. In fact this is my first review, I decided to write a review because I was shocked to see lots of people favoring this movie. Anyway I would give it a 1.5 stars, The plot was good, Famke was good, overall the movie sucked, I would like to put a restraining order on this film.
Nice start, pretty sketchy though. When it turns out to be a ghost movie, it still seems to be in good hands. It might be a low-budget film, but it kind of makes its way through the whole film. There are no actors to point out, everyone is doing his/her job pretty well. The effect scenes are pretty low-key, might be considered too low-key, however, the overall situation and the environment sort of does a whole lot to make the situation as uneasy as possible. Hard to get rid of that goddamn word though: "sketchy". Low-budget or not, this film has one of the most disturbing kill scenes of all time in my opinion. Also, one HUGE bump. Very basic stupid mistake. Now what? My overall opinion is still: Never worse.
