This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Beautiful, moving film.
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Only thing this had to do with Day of the dead (1985) is that they are both zombie movies. Other that I will say it not a remake. It is great horror movie thou. 4.5 is underrating it. I give it 9 out 10. It has a great story line. It also has great acting. It also has great special effects. It is very scary. This a great zombie film. This movie is a must see. It one of the best horror movies of all time. Mena Suvari is a great actress. Nick Cannon is a great actor. Steve Miner is a great film maker. This is a very scary movie. See it. This movie is scarier then The Silence of the lambs ever could be. If it does not scary you no movie will. This is a very scary movie.
I only write reviews of movies with low rating, which actually are not that bad. Give them a chance!I must admit I expected more, the casting is cool, as well as the story taken from the original, but... something went wrong. Zombies are bad, really, really BAD. Now imagine MJ singing this in his Thriller zombie costume! That is probably the only thing I don't like. When you watch a remake, you already know what will happen, and you expect to see that old story again in some new form, like other 'modern' films... this one had a potential for that, but failed. Zombies shouldn't be so fast, and camera in those parts is bad, too. I blame producers for this, instead of giving money to Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari, they should have gave it to someone who knows how to create and shoot zombie-fight scenes. Then the movie would be cool even without known actors.I watched it only because I like movies about apocalypse, and if you imagine it like that - it is watchable! I was able to watch it to the end. All craziness caused by zombie outbreak is 'realisic', so I can't regret watching this.5/10
While this 2008 re-make, re-invention or homage, or whatever it is supposed to be, is entertaining enough for what it was, then it was a massive slap in the face to the legacy of Romero and the original "Day of the Dead" movie.Yes, I might be a Romero fanboy, but when you take an established movie such as "Day of the Dead" and decide to do this to it, what director Steve Miner apparently decided to do, you should be aware that you are Stepping on a lot of toes here.First of all, I must say that I saw very little resemblance to the original movie, aside from there being zombies, Bud was there, and soldiers were there. Aside from that, then this 2008 version was nothing more than a less than mediocre zombie movie slapped with an impressive movie title, cashing in on the success of the 1985 classic Romero movie.Secondly, then there were just so many bad things in the movie and so many things that make you go 'no, just no!'. For example, the zombies were fast, agile runners and impressive jumpers. That just never sits well with me in any type of zombie movies. And the sound that the zombies were making was just too much. It sounded like feline predators most of the time, and it was so bad that it was becoming a nuisance to the movie. And what was up with the zombies being able to climb upside down from the ceiling or scale a wall while moving on all four. No, it was just way too ridiculous.Thirdly, then while it was a good thing, I guess, that they had Bud in the movie. Then they had just taken that iconic zombie character and totally mauled it, turning it into something nowhere near as characteristic as what was seen in the 1985 movie.Alright, well don't get me all wrong here, because not everything in the movie was bad. The zombie make-up was, for the most part, actually quite good. And that is a MUST have in a zombie movie. The make-up, prosthetics and/or CGI must be realistic and believable. And the special effects and make-up teams were really pulling their weight in this 2008 version of "Day of the Dead".As for the acting in the movie, well, lets just call it as it was; adequate. Nothing outstanding to be witnessed here, perhaps given the fact that the cast list wasn't all that impressive. Personally I think it was kind of odd to see Ving Rhames in this movie, as he had also starred in the re-make of "Dawn of the Dead". Sure, it was two different characters, but still...It should be said that this movie is very fast paced, right from the very beginning. And that does count for something, because you will not be bored throughout the course of the movie. For a zombie aficionado there isn't much to come after here in the 2008 version of "Day of the Dead". And I bet that you are most likely to find the movie so deviant from the original "Day of the Dead", that you will, like me, be puzzled by why this movie carries the same title. However, all in all, then I am rating "Day of the Dead" a less than mediocre rating of four stars out of ten. It just wasn't an outstanding or memorable zombie movie. And the fact that it such a shameless slap in the face to the original movie, just stung me to the core.
Similarity to the Romero classic stops at the name. The premise of this 'version' is quite different- the zombie plague breaks out during the course of the film, as opposed to being well established as in the Romero original. Whete the original 'Day' took time to develop characters , suspense and drama using largely unknown actors unfortunately this film rapidly turns into a brainless shoot em up, packed with cliché upon cliché, there are so many ludicrous moments, it is astounding the actors did not stop during filming and question that no one would ever behave in the ways the characters do. Its a shame, because the film obviously cost a lot of money, and the sound, effects and sets are well done, but there is some very dodgy camera work and editing with the zombies being speeded up and given odd behaviour such as being able to defy gravity. Even the usually talented Suvari is just drifting through this film, her face having 'what am I doing here' written all over it. Nick Cannons character is so appalling as to be deeply offensive to anyone with half a brain. The plot holes are just a joke. No one seems panicked at the mayhem taking place, other than the screaming blonde girl with the tight vest, the gun shop packed with untouched automatic weapons that wasn't locked, and so on and so on. A waste of time better spent doing absolutely anything else. This film has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I pity Ving Rhames all the way to the bank.
