Wonderful character development!
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
An entertaining film about a serious subject. Solid performances by Hounsou & DeCaprio. Definitely worth a watch.
There are few movies that I can cry every time I watch them. This is one of those movies. The performances of all the characters pull at the true balance of mankind. Good versus evil, right and wrong... The price of war is costly, no matter what country. The performances of the actors is of course award winning. My favorite line, "I'm looking at an incredible view right now." The emotional roller-coaster is a wonderful story.
Tone & Story: The title 'It's a real story now' is a sentence that find its source in the statement released by Danny Archer to Maddy Bowen (a journalist) while Danny was about to die. He does it so that the story portrayed by Bowen to entire world, generates its height. Danny before was a selfish character who dint mind the lives of innocent people to gain wealth, but later he loses his life to save an African man and bring his family together. The story puts light on how anything valuable produced (diamonds here, in this movie) in lands of Africa becomes curse for its own citizens. Later in movie it's shown how the 'story' (it's a real story now) influences 40 nations to sign 'The Kimberley Process' to check conflicting diamonds (5/5).Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: Although the movie was not shot in Sierra Leone, Direction, Cinematography and Screenplay are very good (4/5).Music: Music is good. It goes well along with the tone (3/5).Acting: Acting is very good (4/5).Final Verdict: It is worth adding to your DVD collection [(4/5) (9/10)].
I remember seeing this movie when it came out in cinema. To give you a glimpse into my life, i was suffering from an eating disorder at the time and was very very ill at the time. My dad took me to the cinema in an attempt to try and connect with me. The story of a father doing everything he could to get his son back from the arms of an African warlord was emotional enough on its own. When my dad said that he would do the same to get me back I truly broke down and it was a turning point in my life. From that point I got the care I needed and am now writing this review as a final year medical student in at Cambridge university. How things change, huh?Well, back to the movie. The story line hinges on the discovery of a huge diamond that was hidden by a father who had his son taken by an African warlord. When the DiCaprio's character learns of this, he uses the father to get the diamond, whilst the father uses DiCaprio's influence on various means of transportation to get his son back. A sort of mutual agreement. The journey these characters go on from there, both physically and emotionally, was just incredible. The script was well-written and the acting was truly some of the best I had ever seen. In particular, DiCaprio's accent made me believe he had been South African born and bred. Honestly, I cannot fault this movie. Maybe it is because it has such a special place in my heart, but I think it is more than that. I never cry watching a movie, but there is always one scene (near the end) that gets me every time. There is a reason why I make an effort to watch this movie at least once a year - it is a masterpiece.
