Memorable, crazy movie
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Poster boys is a solid comic effort from debutante director Shreyas Talpade. Fact is he has worked in some of our better popcorn comedies in recent years like Golmaal and Housefull , add the fact that he himself is a good comic timing actor has helped him in dishing out a movie which is entertaining enough.Poster Boys makes you realize that Bobby Deol has a very good talent for comedy. His effort as the small town teacher ,forever dominated by an aggressive wife might come across as heavily Dharmendra in chupke chupke inspired but Bobby Deol leaves his mark in this movie. His shudhdh Hindi lines and the small diary in his pocket acts brought the house down.Shreyas as the toughie collection agent who acts confident but is actually dumb does his job with the casual ease that an actor of his calibre can.Sunny Deol proves yet again that he remains a superstar who can own the scene anytime that he wants to. His Jagawar Chaudhary effort is good enough to make this movie watchable and the scene where he casually plucks the lock out the grill makes you wonder if this screaming avenger of 90s only needs a good director and one more rocking hit could just be round the corner.Poster Boys is a tale of three small town characters who are brought together in a comedy of errors because they get their photograph clicked in the same mela from the same photographer. An unexpected social campaign of nasbandi lands them into big time soup and their near and dear ones also get entangled in unnecessary pain and complications. The story is about how the three come together and win their battle. In the process the movie ends up giving you some positive message around gender equality too BUT make no mistake Poster Boy is a laugh riot.Poster Boy's biggest pull is the earthy presentation of its humour, it does not have Rohit shetty style grand canvas presentation or David Dhawan style of comedy presentation. Yet the comedy moments, the one liners keep coming at you like a barrage of bullets. The internal chemistry of all the characters and the small subplots like the teacher and his dominating wife, Jagawar and his down to earth partner, Arjun singh and his two bumbling but golden hearted side kicks are all well mixed with the main story plot - actually Shreya Talpade deserves kudos for building a screenplay which is just 130 odd minutes and yet keeps a story which is engrossing enough. Not for once does the movie loses its focus on entertaining the comic way.If you are looking for decent enough humor entertainment for the weekend Poster Boys is good enough.Poster Boys , I must confess , is unexpectedly good and probably this will be one of the bigger surprise hits of 2017.
Some stories are so absurd, that they must be true! This is what can be said for 'Poster Boys', a directorial venture of Shreyas Talpade (himself an accomplished actor, although lately kind of disappeared from the mainstream). The topic of male sterilization and the associated taboo in India, especially when you live in a small village community, is presented in a funny and exaggerated manner. It is nice to see another attempt to re-launch Bobby Deol (as yet another borderline comic character). Although can't say it is much successful. In fact Sunny Paaji's effortless timing and dialog delivery made him overshadow his younger brother in nearly every scene together. He stole the show. Shreyas Talpade, who plays one the three main characters in the story, is OK; dons a 'tapori' look as a recovery agent, with two of his sidekicks (who by the way, gave some of the good laughs), getting into unwarranted troubles most of the time. The movie tries to treat the subject in a quasi satirical manner, with references to how media can be manipulated by simply making some sensational moves. 'Truth needs sensation to be heard' - a sad but apt comment, made by one of the characters.Overall nice, watchable and funny. Not that a must watch, but you most likely won't regret wasting your time.
One man discovers his sister's fiance's father has called off the wedding; another, that his fiancee's father has done likewise; a third, that his wife is walking out. It takes twenty minutes for them to discover what has disgraced them in the eyes of their village: there's a government campaign to encourage men to get vasectomies, and they're the poster boys. Everyone thinks it's disgraceful. The thing is, none of them have done it.This Bollywood comedy spends the first twenty minutes flailing about, until it settles down and becomes engaging; there are too many loud comedy turns by too many people to offer much beyond comic stereotypes. It is only when calm, rational, moral Sunny Deol loses his temper that he emerges as the leader of the three and balances the comic triad. The story never quite lives up to its promise, as they are frustrated by events, government inertia and continually up the stakes, until they decide -- for no clear reason -- to strip naked in protest. However, there are some bright comic bits along the way.
In recent times we have dealt with two movies that also deal with mentality of people. The first is released earlier. It deals with toilet problem in rural India 'Toilet – Ek prem katha'. The other movie is this one, namely 'Poster boys'. It deals with birth control method of vasectomy and girl child. It is crafted really well. The movie keeps you engaged in the first half. Few ten minutes of second half seem boring. It may be because of buffalo jokes in second half. The movie catches well again irrespective of that. I even liked the action minister takes in front of crowd after knowing the truth.Shreyas has got all good help which he could have got that it itself is a great treat.Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: It is captured well.Tone: The core message that movie tries to deliver takes place in ending few minutes of the movie. Rest assured the movie belongs to comedy genre.Music: Music is average.Acting: Everybody has acted well.It is worth a watch.rating: 6.5/10.
