A Masterpiece!
There's a good chance the film will make you laugh out loud, but if it doesn't, there's an even better chance it will make you openly sob.
an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
I wanted to mention that I am the type who usually watches movies that are made from the big daddies of the film industry. That means that I would only watch films with highly known actors and directors. Recently however, I've began to watch independent films and there are a good amount of rare gems out there and this is one of those rare gems. I really enjoyed the story and the characters felt so real. While watching this movie I was making some intense connections with the characters, especially with the main protagonist. I really felt everything that she was going through, especially with the loss of her mother and her wanting to know what really happened to her. My point is that nowadays the film industry sometimes dishes out movies with great visuals, but with a bad story and horrible cast in characters. Although this film was not so flashy the story and how it played out was really good. Glad to see that there are still good movies out there that doesn't try to be like everyone else.
For a film not made by a triple A studio, I'm surprised at the list of known actors in this movie's roster. I'm a huge star trek fan, And when I saw Edward Furlong on the list I had to check this film out. I'll be honest I'm not a big fan of these kind of movies but I will admit its not as bad as the comments make it seem. The editing most definitely could've been better but the acting compensated for all these small technical differences. The story was great, I actually thought it would lack in certain areas like the comments stated, I totally disagree with that. Without spoiling anything the ending wasn't what I thought I'd be it completely threw me off, Samantha definitely deserved much more answers. I still enjoyed the movie overall and I hope others will too.
This movie is comically bad. Terrible script, awful acting and annoying score. Some day it will be a drinking game of movie clichés. I wondered who would actually put up the money for this rubbish and hire these actors. Then I did a little online research and everything made sense. The "director" and "writer" is the lead actress Julianne Michelle's mom. Neither has the qualifications for it. This mother-daughter duo is relentless in promoting themselves by over stating their qualifications, giving super pretentious interviews (Julianne claims she did Wall Street as a "favor" to Oliver Stone), and slapping on award claims from some 3rd rate film festival. Just take a look at those 10/10 ratings. 100% must be from family and friends who are nodding along as if they received a really crap piece of drawing from a child but still has to smile and say good job.
This movie really is not bad, yeah this is my first review but on the contrary to more recent reviews, I enjoyed it. The actors did a good job and the story progressed as it should have, so I don't see a problem here. It made me think about what was really going on toward the end and I do enjoy plot twists in movies. To the actors and everyone who worked on this movie, I say keep on keeping on and expose more people to this movie. Honestly I would recommend Awakened to friends and family because I like to see things gain popularity and traction especially if some people feel differently. Like I said, great movie and would recommend to others.
