I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Not just a golf movie. You don't even need to like golf to enjoy this movie. The story and scenery are worth it. Jim Caviezel did an amazing job in bringing Bobby Jones to life. Although I didn't know anything about Jones, I know enough about golf to understand the importance of what he contributed to the sport. The parts were beautifully cast although Clair F is not my favorite actress (I didn't like her in Meet Joe Black), she did a fine representation of women of that era. I think Jim Caviezel is a very underrated actor and does a fine job in each part he has played. You don't see Jim, you just see the character, which to me should be the goal of a good actor. Definitely worth the money to rent and the time to watch, more than once.
I urge you to see the Bobby Jones movie in question. If you do, you will see what a bad movie is all about. They simply do not make movies this bad very often.I figure that the ones posting "Great Movie!!!" on this site are desperately trying to get you to rent this awful thing for a very personal reason. They want you to spend your money so they can get a little of their investor money back.Go rent it... and then spread the word.Bobby Jones movie is laughably bad! AND--they even stole the title from the TITANIC THOMPSON:STROKE OF GENIUS book! Go figure!
OK....I am not a golfer and don't care about golf.. I wasn't going to watch the movie based solely on this, but it was just on TV, and I thought I would just watch a few minutes and see if it would be worth watching. It was!! It is a great movie even if you know nothing about golf and don't care about learning anything about golf. It is a wonderfully done movie with great historical information and a great group of actors and actresses who make the entire movie pleasurable. It follows the life on a golfing legend Bobby Jones, who started playing golf as a child and continued playing amateur golf and is the only person to win the Grand Slam of golf (ok, so maybe I don't remember what the name for the big thing he won, but it was 4 big golf championships). The movie is well worth the time to watch whether you love golf or know nothing about the game.
First off, there are far too many films that have already been made about this prolific golfer, Bobby Jones. One film you might have heard of is the legend of Bagger Vance. To die hard golf fans who hate entertainment, The Legend of Bobby Jones will be superb. The acting is okay, while the mise-en-scene is surprisingly spectacular. The story and plot, however, are plain boring. Which is to expect, since this film is more of an autobiography of a man's life. There just really isn't much of anything this film can offer the people who could care less about golf and Bobby Jones. You've not missed anything if you haven't seen this film, so it's okay to pass it up.
