Amber dreams of escaping her small town existence and persuades her friends to accompany her to find an apartment in the big city. When their transportation breaks down, she and her friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi. But when the driver refuses to stop and they discover the cargo is hundreds of cartons of blood, they panic. It is a performances centric movie
As Good As It Gets
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Blistering performances.
I would have only rated this movie about a 6 but to make up for the unreasonably low rating, I went ahead and gave it an 8. It's really disgusting that other movies that are pure crap directed and written by people who have no talent can get rated so high on here but movies that are actually entertaining get low ratings. That makes no sense and I think people must be getting paid to rate these crap movies. Or maybe their fellow Hollywood satanic cult members are the ones giving the high ratings. but this movie was actually scary and high tension. you could feel the fear of the characters and the horror of being hunted by ravenous creature/human things, that's great. also, at the end, there was a unique and unexpected twist that shows real imagination and intelligence on the part of the writer. i enjoyed it. i recommend it to anyone who likes horror movies. It had a good ending. it wasn't all bad and negative. the only down side is the sexual comments and the girls kissing. but i just muted the movie until it got to the good part which didn't take very long.
Prowl – CATCH IT (C+) Prowl is one of those indie horrors which are good till the 3rd act. Prowl revolves around a group of 6 friends who go on road trip to Chicago to help a friend Amber paying her new apartment rent. In the middle of the road there car broke down and they take a lift from a truck driver. The journey starts calmly but later when they see the truck has changed his path and going off the road they start panicking and then the whole nightmare starts. Prowl does manage to create enough scares and deliver decent performances by all actors Courtney Hope, Ruta Gedmintas, Joshua Bowman, Bruce Payne , Jamie Blackley, Oliver Hawes, George Oliver, Saxon Trainor and Perdita Weeks. In the end, it does feel like a drag since we don't know the origin or reason of the creatures. Are they breed of Zombies, Vampires etc. so, just some cannibalistic human race with super strength is little too much.
I haven't seen Rovdyr, the director Patrik Syversen first horror attempt. But this one is available in the After Dark series so I had to see it. It's a simple story, being at the wrong place at the wrong moment. But at the final luckily there's a twist.Patrik really took his time for the viewers to get involved in the story and the characters and it did work for me. Once they decide to make a road trip their van broke down and they accept a ride from a trucker. They know the dangers and are taking precautions as things should turn wrong. Naturally, they go wrong. Courtney Hope who plays Amber has the main lead and she really was believable. The others were good too but they vanished quickly to see what they could show us. Ruta Gedmintas wasn't that bad either. Here again we have the After Dark problem. When they say, let's go skinny dipping no one goes skinny. I really think that's due the After Dark rules. But we are here to see towards the horror and it did work out fine for me. There's a lot of gore attached in the story but naturally the mutants or creatures is done so many ways. But the flick is rescued by the surprising ending. It's ready for part 2 if they want too. Gore 3/5 Nudity 0/5 Story 3/5 Effects 3/5 Comedy 0/5
Prowl does have surprising twists and turns in it as well as some suspense and terror but in the end it was below par compared to much better horror movies of this type, it's just lost in the shuffle. The acting is surprisingly decent with Courtney Hope giving it her all as a small town, adopted 18 year old girl trying to break free and move to the big city and when a chance phone call for an dream apartment in Chicago her friends decides to take her there but things quickly turn for the worst when their car breaks down and hitches a ride with a truck driver. This is when the suspense and intensity kicks in when they find themselves trapped in a preying ground for bloodsucking beings. There were a lot of jump out of your seat moments and some twisted, graphic kills but nothing we haven't seen before and better and when the final twist is revealed the movie loses its steam and becomes more and more repetitive and not as effective and it's a shame because it had so much potential and wasted it pretty quickly. The ending sucked and was very anti climatic like it was setting it up as a franchise or something which I won't mind because I would like to know more about the main female character and the new journey she will take but wouldn't really care if they didn't make one either. I will add though that the After Dark Horrorfest seems to be improving more and more each year but still hasn't come out with an top to bottom great horror film that will be remembered for the right reasons because right now it seems like they are stealing some ideas from other better horror films and trying to make it their own way with their own twists but I give them an A for trying. Overall if you like movies like The Descent, Shuttle, Twilight, The Lost Boys etc. then you might enjoy this one but I can't really recommend it because of the plot holes and flaws covered the film more than its solid elements. More of a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
