Synopsis
This is a fast-paced, modern, thirty-minute program that explores the best of Michigan. Airing on PBS outlets all across Michigan, Northern Ohio, and Eastern Wisconsin and 2.5 Million homes in Canada. Think modern, hip, high-tech, fast-paced, travel channel - concentrating on only Michigan. Each week UTR host Tom Daldin explores everything from Michigan restaurants and museums, to cool businesses and neighborhoods. The object is to discover the people, places and things that are unique about Michigan.
Episode 13 : Pontiac; Howell

On this, our final show of season 6 we peruse Pontiac for two people who made a menagerie of all things edible. We’ll also spend a moment with the mayor and even take you to a new place where you can press your pedal to the metal. Then we head to Howell for some local radio, a speakeasy that is easy to love, and a friendly family festival that floats...

Then, it’s off to Gaylord where they’ve got tons of that other G words … golfers. We’ll take you to a place that continues to make classic family vacation memories; to a cool, funky restaurant where you can also buy cool, funky stuff; and we’ll even show you an incredible elk herd you may not have heard of. Episode 6 : “Three Little Kittens….” The Middle of the Mitten

When was the last time you made your way down the middle of Michigan’s magnificent mitten … I thought so. Well, fear not … because Team UTR is gonna do it for you. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the wild ride. We start our awesome adventure at a diner in Grayling that has a collection of bottle caps that will captivate you. Then we head to Mt. Pleasant for a lesson in America’s original human history. We’ll also take you to St. John for a Cider Mill you can see from space; Lansing to meet a real Michigan princess; and finally to Dimondale for a bona fide Beatles collection that will melt your mind. Get to know the middle of the mitten like the “front” of your hand on Under the Radar Michigan. That’s right, it’s time for another patented UTR special adventure … and this time we hit Michigan’s Middle Earth.
Episode 5 : “Silver Twinkies – – YUM!!!” Flint, Eaton Rapids

On this action-packed episode of UTR it’s back to a tale of two cities. First up, we hit Flint for a new place right downtown that’s reconnecting urbanites with real food. Then we find a better burger that’s so good … the name of the place says it all. We’ll even take you to a park where you and your favorite off-road ride can get down and dirty in the mud. Then, it’s off to the Island City of Eaton Rapids where a team of Airstreams take over the entire town. We’ll also meet a cool young couple who are teaching the old hotdog some delicious new tricks, and do some fine dining at an English Inn that has its own party pub right downstairs. That’s right … strap on your favorite bib and belly up to the buffet, because here comes another one of our patented UTR “Best of” Restaurant Specials, where we take you to some of our favorite eateries from episodes gone by. We’ll show you one great family in Flint who combined two great concepts; a place in Cross Village with great legs (you’ll see); a farm you can carry your fork to in Hemlock and a Traverse City chef who does home cooking … in a home. And, if that’s not tasty enough for you, we’ll even take you above the Rio Grande to Grand Rapids for the best taco below “any” border. Five more reasons why Michigan is the best place in the world to live, work, play …. and chow!!!

In Michigan, we have more great beach towns than you can shake a sand-filled shoe at, so we decided to show you two more great ones. First, we head to beautiful Pentwater and stay at a B&B with extra walls … that’s extra nice. We even show you how to learn a new skill with new friends and a great place to eat and relax that will satisfy “all” your senses. Then we travel up the coast to Majestic Manistee for a flight that will get you high on this great town. We also show you how some enlightened folks are using an old ironworks to put a new spin on eating healthy. And, last but not least, we take you to a historic hotel that even has its own happy place right in the basement. Oh yeah… we’ll even show you the beaches in these towns. Well for gosh sakes, cut it out … Michigan’s incredible UP is what I like to call “our own out west” … and it’s right here. From pristine forests and waterfalls to fabulous art and fantastic food finds, everything you need for a true Michigan adventure is all over the UP. Even if you’re a city-slicker … there’s tons of energy, culture, history, and architecture up here to keep you happily hopping from town to town. It truly is a treasure that more of us low-plains flat-landers need to discover.
