The War Prayer
Outraged by American military intervention in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War, Mark Twain wrote a short story called "The War Prayer" in 1905. Harper's Bazaar Magazine rejected the piece, as did Twain's own publisher. Even his family and friends feared it was 'sacrilegious', and the story remained unpublished until 1923...thirteen years after his death. "I don't think the prayer will be published in my time. None but the dead are permitted to tell the truth."

The Films of Man Ray 1923-1940
Born in Philadelphia in 1890, Man Ray settled in Paris in 1921 to join in with the Dada movement. He was a radically experimental artist of genius who won immense critical acclaim for his photographic work. In the 1920s, Man Ray directed four films which, although they are little known to the general public, made him a major figure in avant-garde cinema. His film-making was as radical as his pictures and his objects. This is a collection of his works including 10 short home movies never before released.

Mobius Loops
A performance work for multiple projectors in which the starting point is my sound & image experiments of the 70s. The film and sound material was prepared in one simple action by bleaching away the side of a length of black leader, leaving a clear strip running along its length. The film has two sets of perforations and is twisted into a loop, known as a Mobius Loop. On projection, the strip of projected light switches from side to side, followed by a change in tone of the sprocket holes. Three 16mm projectors lie on their sides, and the loops are projected onto the screen as stacked blocks of light, gradually coloured by gels. The performance also makes use of the sound tone controls of the three projectors. First performed at Star & Shadow Cinema, Newcastle 2007 with sound mix by Lynn Loo. G.S.
