Symptoms of influenza mean the last days in the life of the Austrian painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918) seem to be played out beyond the confines of a set time and space. His stylised portraits come to live and edge him further towards death. Choreographer Stuart has transformed his images into a transparent movement language that by turns follows and ignores the music by Alexander von Zemlinsky. The rawly expressive and confrontational imagery reflects the powerful effect of Schiele’s drawings and paintings.

The 3-day BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend attracted over 40K patrons and dozens of young stars but last evening, the event featured performances by a truly great artist. Back the other members of The Smeezingtons band, Bruno Mars ended this year’s festivities with an extensive set of his hits. Among the songs performed by Mars at Derry’s Ebrington Square were “Locked Out of Heaven”, “Just the Way You Are”, “When I Was Your Man”, “Treasure” and “Grenade”. The Big Weekend served as a warmup for the singer’s upcoming Moonshine Jungle Tour, which will kickoff in Washington D.C. on June 22nd before eventually venturing to England on October 5ht.

What do you do when your best friend dies doing something you both love? Paddle To The Ocean is a documentary film about using a banjo, a kayak and a bicycle to recover from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In 2011, Zac Crouse (musician, recreation therapist and expedition kayaker) toured his album 'You Plan To Do Nothing' from Ottawa ON to Halifax NS using only a sea kayak and a bicycle. It was a journey Zac had intended to do with his friend Corey; who sadly passed away while on a kayaking adventure with Zac in Nova Scotia. Paddle To The Ocean is a tribute to Zac's friend, but it also examines the stigma associated with mental illness while demonstrating the benefits of physical activity and music.
