If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
good back-story, and good acting
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Probably I have to start by saying that I'm a 31 year old wife from Indonesia, that's in south east Asia if you don't know, so I was pretty much being brought up by Eastern tradition. And hence when I saw that this movie was presented by Nickelodeon, I thought it was the same Nick that produced the Avatar, which is awesome kids cartoon. And I had a good laugh watching the opening scene, which is pretty comical. The parents kissing was uncomfortable, but okay - I think it's a cute teens movie... though I start to get my suspicion when they started to stalk a character and seeing the character taking off their clothes. But I thought, all right, it's a British movie - I don't know anything about British little girls but maybe that's how they are and that it's acceptable. UNTIL that snogging session with the "kissing instructor" happened!! That was gross!! And then the "thong" thing on the changing room happened. And then all the innuendo happened. And then I realized that this is NOT as much a kid's movie as it's a weird, awkward, bizarre movie with child actors (hello, the Indian girl can't be older than 13).Yes, it's up to "step 6" so probably the maker thought it was 'okay' - I mean, no groping, right? Of course! They are British people with British culture, what am I doing comparing the movie to the norm around here? So of course, I'm biased. But still the movie is weird. Like it's an HBO movie that tries hard to be sexual but still PG-13. I can't say I hate the movie because it has a nice plot and a happy ending, I just hate how children are being pictured in the movie.
Georgia fancies Robbie who is going out with Lindsay so she starts plotting with her friends even though her parents won't let her have the 16th birthday party she wants and besides her dad is getting promoted to New Zealand and her mum may have something going on with the hunky builder...This film is based on books which I haven't read. It is OK. It's not terribly original, but is mildly amusing nonetheless. The acting is, for the large part, no better than adequate and, regrettably, this includes the adult cast as well as the teens. The only cast member who stands out as good as Aaron Johnston who, of course (and, I suspect, not entirely coincidentally), has gone on to bigger and better things.
My face hurts from smiling throughout this movie! It was sweet and lovely and cute and funny, and it also had a few touching moments. It reminded me a bit of "The Princess Diaries" series (the books, not the movies) with a touch of British humor. If you've ever been a 14-year old girl, do watch this!First time I watched a teen-movie where the actors looked like teens and behaved like teens. Yes, their troubles are meaningless and foolish, but usually movies about teens have us believe adolescence is a road filled with drugs, alcohol and sex. Over-analyzing about boys is actually a more sincere picture of adolescence in my opinion.I loved the "see you later" discussion between Georgia and Jas: -Tom said "see you later". -I know! -What does that mean? -I'm not sure... And so on. Hilarious. And the part where her father tells her she's beautiful and she goes "you have to say that 'cause you're my dad". That totally happens! The only thing that kinda let me down was the ending. It was exaggerated and too optimistic I guess. It lost that "real" feel the movie had until then... I am looking forward to reading the books, I have the feeling they'll be even better...
When it comes to teenage films, the only thing you should remember is "Mean Girls", but before you check that movie out, you see this movie and check it out. The movie "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging" is a original coming-of-age kind of teenage film ONLY for the teenagers and sometimes the parents will enjoy it as well. In director Gurinder Chadha's adaptation of the two books, "Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging" and "On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God", it tells such a wicked story of Georgia Nicolson (played brilliantly by Georgia Groome), a 14-going-on-15 teenage rebel who wants the perfect boy, the perfect life and the perfect 15th birthday party of her life. But, as you can see, her life is so disconnected by her parents and her sister, but is rescued by her beloved cat, Angus and her pals in which she calls them the "Ace Gang". That is until she crosses eyes on two twin brothers who just moved from London to Eastbourne because of their parents' divorce. One is Robbie (Aaron Johnson), who is musically gifted and is Georgia's perfect target but he's got a girlfriend named "Slaggy" Lindsay who wants nothing more but wearing thongs and fawning over Robbie and to keep Georgia away from him. There is much to talk about in this hilarious film, but I will not say anything else. The movie is not dirty (although you can see some shots of girls wearing thongs in a Nickelodeon movie that is rated PG-13 only), but it is faithful to the books and it focuses in on Georgia's life in the right direction. Once after you'll see it, you will probably own it on DVD, like me. The breakthrough performances of Groome and Johnson are a dream team and therefore I must say, it is worth a ride. Try it. Like Georgia says at the very end of the film: "Result!".
