The success and popularity of Carlo among Italian voters suffered a sudden slowdown due to a bad joke on the famous football player Francesco Totti. The political rivals take advantage of it in a subtle and unfair way and as if that weren't enough, Annalisa gives Carlo the bad news: she wants to give her husband a second chance. Only the return of his daughter Maddalena from London will be able to calm his tormented soul.

While Carlo manages to foil an attempted suicide at the Colosseum, strengthening his popularity as a candidate for mayor of Rome, at home his son Giovanni is busy organizing a party. Here, he meets Giorgia, a singer with whom he establishes an immediate harmony. Meanwhile, the marriage of the pharmacist Annalisa seems to have come to an end, and for Carlo there seems to be the first real chance to win her heart.

Forced to participate in the diamond wedding anniversary of his ex-wife's parents, Carlo relives the secret agreement he made with Sandra 10 years earlier: keeping their separation a secret for everybody. A memorable evening of laughter and a good glass of vino, helps the couple to rediscover the old complicity. Back in Rome, Carlo receives the visit of his friend Max, desperate for having been left by his wife. Carlo, then, finally finds the courage to declare himself to the beautiful pharmacist Annalisa.

Besieged by journalists, by the President of the Region, by the Producer, by the Screenwriter and with Annamaria, his twenty-year-old housekeeper, who resigns and Magdalene who does not answer his phone calls, Carlo exhausted, to find peace, takes refuge in a monastery where the unexpected encounter with a somewhat extravagant musician will take place: Morgan, depressed for having been the victim of ghosting.

Carlo and Max want to go to the stadium to watch the Roma match but on the way the driver argues on the phone with his lover and crashes into some dumpsters. Carlo and Max are forced to follow the game from the hospital as they try to clear themselves with the police, who, pursued by the suspected victim, suspect they were the ones who caused the accident.

At the exhibition of his friend Antonello Venditti, Carlo argues with his son Giovanni who accuses him of not being able to say NO to anyone. In fact, Carlo not only can't decide on the candidacy for mayor, but he can't even get rid of Chicco, his daughter's boyfriend, and put a stop to Erminia, a terminally ill who persecutes him with messages and phone calls.

Doubtful about what to do, during one of his usual nocturnal walks Carlo meets Alessandro Haber who, in the grip of alcohol fumes, brings him back to the most important theme: art.
