Runaway Radio
Runaway Radio
Once upon a time, before our lives went fully digital, radio entertained, informed and dictated what was cool through theater of the mind - and with that Houston's 101 KLOL played a big role in the lives of rock radio listeners. The forthcoming documentary "Runaway Radio" focuses on the legendary outfit - starting in 1970 as a progressive rock station, where DJs played whatever they wanted, to how it evolved into one of several wild Album Oriented Rock (AOR) stations across the country, where on-air personalities were sometimes bigger than the music itself. In the film acclaimed musicians such as Lyle Lovett, ZZ Top's Dusty Hill, Melissa Etheridge and Sammy Hagar along with top radio DJs from across the US reflect on how the medium changed their lives and the lives of devoted listeners. Yet in the end, changes and pressures from Washington, the music industry and Silicon Valley led to the station's, and much of the format's, demise in the 2000s.

Avant-Drag!
Avant-Drag!
Avant-Drag! paints portraits of ten drag artists of varying gender expressions and sexualities who take to the streets of Athens to query, problematise and (yes, please!) undermine social strictures. Employing wildly imagined personas – like riot housewives and Albanian turbo-folk girls – who perform acts as revolutionary as praising abortion and as charming as drawing childish pictures, these artists call for social justice by taking aim at conservatism, patriarchy, patriotism, racism and sexism.

Singing in Dark Times
Singing in Dark Times
Perhaps the city is what remains after the buildings, streets, and memories that hold the city together are buried under ruins. Maybe a ’voice’ will gather all this ruin and bring it together. The Hatay Academy Symphony Orchestra has set out for this. One rail of this ’high-speed train’, which is heading towards disaster faster and faster, is the ’state of emergency’ and the other rail is ’debris’. To change today, we all need to pull the emergency brake, we need to stop this train. Artists from Hatay are in solidarity for this journey. A year has passed and they have turned our pain into something bearable. Without them, this pain would be insupportable.
