Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
How sad is this?
A brilliant film that helped define a genre
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
When this film was released 10 years ago, it was widely panned by the critics as they felt the film lacked the seriousness or intensity that always existed in a Mani Ratnam's film. But now after watching the film after 10 years of its release, it seems the movie was much ahead of its time. Madhavan's role is definitely a first of its kind role in Tamil cinema. This was perhaps the earliest movie that showed the lifestyle of people in North Chennai, a trend which was seen in many realistic movies made in the years to come(like Pudhupettai, Polladhavan, Aranya Kandam etc). If Madhavan was the typical North Chennai guy, then Siddarth is a typical south Chennai guy who falls in love with a girl from Taramani. (which again would become a trend in the films made after Ayutha Yezhuthu). The differences/variations between the characters has been brilliantly brought to the screen.(Background music, Cinematography, art direction and costumes need special mention). This is one of the most matured performances Surya has given in his career. The recent commercial movies featuring Surya, definitely seems to have ruined the career of an otherwise brilliant actor. Barathiraja's casting is indeed a real surprise. He adds more dignity to an otherwise typical villain of tamil cinema. The movie has its own share of flaws which becomes inevitable whenever such a complex story narration is used. Nevertheless going by the number of movies that have been inspired by this film, Ayutha Ezhuthu remains a classic film of Tamil cinema.
Before beginning,i like to say something to Mr Roby Kurian (USA) ,who reviewed earlier, Mr. you like to be proud finding similarities between movies, but i don't think you will never be satisfied watching movies,as you always look for similarities, not let yourself to enjoy the movie. Its not a remake of that Mexican film. Now come to the movie. Here are few messages to the people, specially the youth. You will find it when watching the movie. Some of them may match with you also. The bullshit politics is dragged down here, and the new era in politics is also shown. It is the Student who have to make changes. They must. They are the mass who could save their nation. This movie reflects the present politics of south Asia region . Madhban,Surya,Sidarth...and..rest of them acted very well.
i heard from one of them, that aayitha yezhutthu is a 'shameless remake'!!! how can he say that?? in fact that should have been told to the Hindi version!! it was first made in Tamil & then in Hindi, but both released in the same day!! The Tamil version has come out much more matured, natural & even the lyrics & music blend very well with the story!! But in Hindi the lyrics are adjusted withe the tune with great difficulty except kabhi neem neem... With all these why don't why the Hindi version has got 7.5/10 & the Tamil version 6.7/10.Common Mani has taken the Tamil industry to a different level. He's given a rich touch to his movies unlike those silly horrible masala flicks which are too overdone which only raise irritation & anger within people.Mani Ratnam should be appreciated & awarded for his work. Common, Mani ratnam, a.r rahman, vairamutthu & Ravi chandran combo ROCKS!!!!
I didn't really know what to think of "Ayutha Ezuthu" after the first time that I saw it - I suppose I was expecting a much different movie - but after revisiting it, I really have come to appreciate and enjoy it. Mani Ratnam is really a director who understands characters and shapes them with such heart and soul. The real stand-out actor here for me is Madhavan, who portrays Inba, the street thug who aspires to overcome his low-life existence but does it in all the wrong ways. The nuances of his character really show, and the 180-degree reversal from what we are used to seeing him as makes his performance all the more appealing. And Bharathi Raja ... wow! He comes off as a cunning and very humorous villain, and the exchanges between Surya and him are certainly something to see. I would least expect Mani Ratnam to put out something with a political message, but he does it with grace and style. A big thumbs up!
