Captivating movie !
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
I never have cared for Ryan Phillipe or Sarah Michell Gellar , but I heard the premise of the movie from a friend and remembered that my High School had a bunch of girls who had a "Slam Book" . It was the predisesor of cyber bulling! But it was as damaging to the people that they wrote about as Cyber Bulling is in this modern age! This movie is very twisted and shows how a group of Rich kids are generally spoiled brats! This movie actually made me dislike Phillipe and Gellar even more! The soundtrack is incredible for this movie, but the plot is mentally twisted! Who would screw their stepsister ? That's just too screwed up for words! But their little bet screwed them both! Reese gets the vintage Jaguar, Phillipe gets killed, and Gellar ends up in rehab! The only reason I'm really reviewing this at all is the "Slam Book" and it's replacement by the internet and social media shows that people are just mean to each other, mostly I think it's just jealousy!
nothing surprising. only decent acting, young actors, the old novel, a new frame. and, maybe, nothing more. result- a nice version, more seductive for young public . short, a cool film. and this could be a real great virtue ( of you do not ignore the sensuality of Ryan Philip).
Man, this movie is just a punch to the heart. Can you just imagine both the guy's situation, and the girls's at the end after he gets hit by the car. Dudes step sister try to set him up and everything. All for her own selfish wants. All she ever was is a drug addict, spoiled, and manipulative b*tch. The ending of this movie is a series of serious punches to the heart. It starts at the beginning of the funeral, and gets progressively harder after "The Verve" starts playing bittersweet symphony, after the speech dudes step sister is giving. the guy that died had a journal filled with horrible stuff she did. It was written by his love, who is now living without him.I tried to make as such sense as I could, but it's one of those reviews you have to spoil in order to do, but you don't want to at the same time. The pain in this movie is a unique experience, and the revenge by the girl at the end IS bittersweet. I shed a tear during this, and movies hardly EVER make me cry. I gave this movie a perfect 10... I hardly ever give perfect 10 ratings. man the ending is one of the best endings I have ever experienced.
A step brother and sister make a bet to take the virginity of the headmasters daughter. This is a decent drama that holds the attention well throughout as the immoral bet takes it toll on all concerned. I wasn't particularly taken with Ryan Phillipe's performance though he does play the confident spoilt rich kid pretty well. The female leads fare better with perhaps surprisingly Sarah Michelle Gellar outperforming Reese Witherspoon though to be fair her part is the better one. I was interested to see where the plot would go and was pleased that it didn't follow a predictable path. I liked the dark ending and think it went well with the tone of the film. Although it's a bit unsubstantial to be a great film this is still an entertaining watch.
