If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
This is one of the best movies I watched recently. I do tend to watch silly romantic comedies and pointless dramas from time to time, so it might look like a bad recommendation if it comes from me.However, you can trust me on this one. I know (or at least I think I do, it's all a matter of taste) what are the main characteristics of a good movie when I see one - a story, decent acting, perhaps a moral... Even though no one gets murdered (well, almost:D), nothing explodes, no one saves the world from an ultimate destruction (only figuratively:D), despite the fact that it's complete story is placed indoors and follows the poor, boring hard-working lives of a couple of good old' ordinary people, it's STILL dynamic and fun. It pretty much qualifies, based on modern blockbuster standards, to be boring as hell, and to some of you who need action heroes, blood, sex and violence to be amused, it probably will be. This movie's all about modern life flaws, routine, lost hopes and dreams... and introspection. Loads and loads of introspection that's pretty much universal. I watched a lot of movies during the past years. Some I loved, some I hated. There are only a few I had courage to call 'great movie'. This one I dare to call great and it got it's way on my top 10 list of all time.
From the first few minutes of watching this movie I could tell it was going to be a good one. The narrators humor is dark, pessimistic and completely truthful. The plot itself is seemingly humorous.Four coworkers become involved in a bet to see who can stay inside the longest. But do not be fooled. It's much darker and deeper it sounds. That is only one aspect of it though, it's much darker and deeper than it sounds. This film takes off into a completely unexpected direction right from the get go, serving as a commentary on people and the monotony of office life. It points out that being trapped in an office could make anyone start to question their sanity. This film contains the in your face reality and sharp edge that only an independent film could capture. A good watch that makes you think.
A hilarious psychological comedy where 4 Calgary coworkers bet on who can go the longest without going outside. The exaggerated personality degradation and hallucinations are funny and successful at drawing the audience into their warped world. There is a glass ant farm that is shown often as an allegory to the people living in the channeled tubes of sky walks & high-rises, and it serves a narration at a couple points. The actors did convey a sense of disorientation from having been indoors for 24 days, but it seemed from their behavior that they were indoors somewhat longer. The story takes place in one fateful day when several big events occur that they can't fully handle because of the bet induced stress, but a critical enlightenment is also realized. In this 18 day low budget shoot, the location and background information are left fuzzy intentionally as are the costume changes that occur randomly. This was shot in DV which made the post production effects much easier on a budget, so they are used with good results throughout the story. Film maker Gary Burns feels that the sky walk system "ruined down town Calgary," and even the title is part of his film statement of "modernization gone terribly wrong." This movie is worth going to see if you can find it.
i saw this movie at the WI film fest in madison, which was the midwest premier, complete with the director there for comments and questions after the movie....anyways, although i heard some noise about how the movie was was basically Office Space and Fight Club mixed. This ended up not to be the case. With a great storyline, excellent acting, and nice color, this movie was quite entertaining. Oddly enough, the movie was filmed on DV, yet it doesn't show TOO much after the conversion to film. definately worth it.
