Absolutely brilliant
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Remarkably entertaining and refreshing little comedy here. The cast of unknowns do a spot-on job of portraying their roles, the writer and director had something ... well, not new, but not overdone, and interesting to say, and, as other reviewers have said - this is true. I have known these people, and even been a few of them. There were very few laugh-out-loud moments - but there were an awful lot of delighted grin times here.Your experience may be very much a matter of taste - I also thought _Romance and Cigarettes_ and _Go!_ were fun, couldn't make it through more than 30 minutes of _Click_, and have no interest in trying _Dumb and Dumber_, _Jackass_, or _Napoleon Dynamite_. If you need overblown to enjoy comedy, skip this one. If subtle, wry wit works for you - enjoy it.
Overall, fantastic! A warning: if you don't live in LA - you might not get it. Those that have given descriptions that say this is a fictional portrayal of stereotypic characters haven't partied in LA and haven't experienced how true and hilarious this movie really is.B&G's guide is a portrayal of hipster party life in Los Angeles. It's story is told like a "how to" manual for the various scenarios that scenesters find themselves in. Its well shot, and I thought that the director, Paul Sapiano, did an excellent job. I love that one of the main characters brought an old mobile to one of the parties in silver lake, and made it a fashion statement. Its too bad that this movie was not released in more theaters. As far as I know, there was only one showing thus far in LA at the Chinese Mann theater in Hollywood. I hope to see it released, and more accessible in the future.
This film has been referred to as the newest cult classic -- maybe. It is cool, it is fun and it is, most of all, REAL. Yeh, that probably describes a cult classic. What I liked about it is that it was fun and the entire theater laughed one scene after another - in unison and spontaneously. I mean, I could not stop laughing and the fact that others were laughing with me was major fun. This movie just Rocks. The character, Andy, in green visor and basketball shirt is really very good. And the other dudes are also all good -- I mean really good. Frankly I was surprised how together this film was. I expected an okay little indie film but this blew me away cause it was actually all pulled together. The acting was all good, the photography work was precise and there and the writing was witty and real. Sometimes gems happen. All the guys on this shoot have a shot. I think we will see them all again and again. It reminded me of "The rat pack" flick. Go see this -- you'll really like it and follow this crew -- they are really all going places!
If you haven't seen "The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down", you must check it out when it comes out in theaters!! This independent movie is hysterical and innovative. It's writing is fantastic. It was written and directed by Paul Sapiano. Definitely a breath of fresh air at the movies, especially when it comes to comedies. The movie is a satire on Los Angeles nightlife and the hipsters in Cahuenga scene. Its ensemble cast is stellar, they create memorable characters that take you through the "dos" and "don'ts" of partying in LA. The movie is set up into chapters and like a guide is supported by some killer graphics. There are also a group of scientist that help us understand the scientific side of "getting down", why things really work the way they do.If you like to party and want to learn from the best... how to get free drinks, get into clubs, buy drugs, get laid, then this is the flick for you! Have some beers and smoke and go enjoy this movie with friends! It will be in theaters March 23!
