Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
The acting in this movie is really good.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
An epic canvas, a quiet love story, a cops-and-robbers drama and an impressively sophisticated storytelling style: Lootera has all this and much more. In short,Lootera is a Bollywood miracle – a rare Mumbai film that is mounted on a lavish scale and yet dares not to play by the established norms of the marketplace.Falling leaves of an autumnal tree and a girl who is assailed by thoughts of dying – the two essential components of the O Henry short story (The Last Leaf) that provides the basis of the narrative – are the principal elements in Lootera. Lootera celebrates the past, mourns the demise of love, life and things of joy and beauty, but in the end affirms the primacy of the human spirit and the power of art to tide over the blows of fate. The film is a period drama that unfolds over two years, 1953 and 1954, a time of great upheaval for the Bengal aristocracy.
It would be somewhat wrong of me, to start a review on a disappointing note. Especially more, when I am about to talk about something so beautiful, that any amount of praise for it is largely insufficient. But I have to. And the only disappointing fact about Lootera was that, it didn't get the attention it deserved. It says a lot about the movie going audience in general, who are binging on filthy films under the garb of this need to see 'Brainless, tension free entertainment'.Lootera does indeed needs your brain. To take it on wonderful journey of a beautiful story, filled with poignant characters and dense emotions. All displayed subtly in gorgeous settings, that not only please your senses but touches your heart.Vikramaditya Motwane made a promising debut with Udaan. With Lootera he ascends to another level. Surprising though, were the performances of the lead actors. I have never been a fan of Ranveer Singh or his energy, so overly displayed in his interviews. But he gives a wonderful display of understated acting which is ironically powerful in itself. Sonakshi Sinha on the other hand grabs your attention with her emotive face and stubborn aura. Adil Hussain deserves a mention as well, for carrying out his short part well. All in all, this is a gorgeous love story in every sense. It unravels wonderfully from start to end. But it will stay with you for a long, long time. Hopefully Motwane is not disheartened by the lack of profit this film made and starts following formulaic film-making. He should stick to what he is doing, cause he is bloody good at it. I am pretty sure, in 10-15 years people will look back at Lootera and maybe appreciate it more. To me its a masterpiece.
I watched this movie on television. And then after watching I realized the movie demanded a theater viewing experience. I felt really proud to notice that such good movies are produced in India once in a while. Good acting and exemplary background score as well as songs and music makes this movie a wonderful watching experience. I really liked the music more than anything else but overall the period setting and lead actor's acting is also praiseworthy. It is such a shame that movies like lootera does not do well in box office collections. This actually shows the mass mentality in India as far as sensibility and art appreciation is concerned. People do not respect and enjoy such artistic work and rather go for meaningless typical bollywood masala flick which are tasteless, boring and requires no intellectual work to produce.
Lootera is a beautiful portray of love in its purest form. I have been a huge fan of vikramaditya motwane since Udaan, and he surprises his fans once again with a masterpiece. Lootera brings everything , the era after independence , vintage cars , sets and of course the scenic beauty of Dalhouise. With a pleasant story , the director extracts the best out of two upcoming actors in the industry. Sonakshi sinha gives the best performance of her career choosing an off- beat script. Ranveer singh is good. The soul of the movie lies in its Music. Amit trivedi returns to the camp with brilliant songs. Every song adds value to the movie. Sawaar loon and shikayatein are the best compositions of the year.Overall Lootera was a delight to watch !!!
