A waste of 90 minutes of my life
A brilliant film that helped define a genre
The acting in this movie is really good.
You want to hear something funny? Not knowing anything at all what this movie was about, I've avoided it for a long time simply based on the title; I'm just not that big on 'romance' movies. Pretty dumb, huh?Well when I finally learned it was partly a Tarantino project I had to get my hands on it. This all in hindsight, because back in 1993, Tarantino was still pretty much an unknown quantity. With an uncanny ear for scintillating dialog, he lights up the screen with characters and situations that defy logic and gravity alike. And the film doesn't rely simply on the actions of it's principal characters either. The Christopher Walken/Dennis Hopper matchup would be a main event in any arena. The violence of course is quintessentially Tarantino, so one wouldn't be mistaken for thinking that Tony Scott was channeling the famed director this time out, as in virtually all respects, one would think Tarantino did the directing honors on this one too. With a star studded cast of principal and supporting players, this film is non-stop adrenaline all the way. So if you're a fan of this stuff you won't be disappointed. The rubout final showdown between the cops, the mob and the movie mogul's goons is reminiscent of a similar scene in the prior year's "Reservoir Dogs", but this time played out with a multiple cast that you can't keep track of for all the flying bullets and bodies. It's more of a roller coaster ride than the roller coaster ride, and you'll see what I mean if you watch the picture.
The ending feels tacked on and tonally troubled, though incidentally it isn't the ending that Tarantino wrote and represents the only major story change that took place during the feature's journey from page to screen - aside from a rejigging of the chronology, which is mostly inconsequential and might even be an improvement on the piece. It punctuates Scott's own romantic, fairy-tale view of a story which should really represent a heightened-reality retelling of 'Bonnie and Clyde' - grim ending and all. 'True Romance (1993)' suffers from the usual problems that plague this writer's work, but is still a highly entertaining and brutal picture that shows off its astute pop-culture sensibilities, excruciatingly long moments of nail-biting tension and brilliantly explosive sequences of violence with pride. Plus, that 'Sicilian' scene really is as fantastic as everyone says. 8/10
Clarence, a loner fall in love with a call girl named Alabama. Later, they get married and Alabama told Clarence about her pimp. Next day, Clarence decides to meet Alabama's pimp and What happens in that meeting makes the movie interesting. It's a love story that told in a different way. The movie was written by Quentin Tarantino and his partnership with the director, Tony Scott actually works out. The story by Tarantino was fascinating and Scott makes it a fast paced movie with witty dialogues and sometimes bullets tells the rest. Overall, it's a romantic thriller that actually works as a crime thriller movie.
True Romance is a really great movie. Wonderfully directed by the late Tony Scott, exquisitely written by Quentin Tarantino and brilliantly acted by the amazing ensemble cast that includes Patricia Arquette, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Samuel L. Jackson, James Gandolfini and many others. The power of the movie is truly the fantastic dynamic between the two main characters, Alabama Whitman and Clarence Worley. Also, I have to comment on the beautiful and memorable soundtrack that the great Hans Zimmer composed.True Romance is a fantastic movie and a must-see for every cinephile!
