This movie has the worst acting I have ever seen in any movie. I know it's supposed to be a comedy/drama but come on. It seemed like the actors were just standing there reading their lines. No real acting involved. The funny parts, or I assume the parts that were supposed to be funny, weren't funny at all. I would recommend all actors in this film go back to acting school. Janet Jackson certainly didn't do herself any favors by being in this movie. It's a Tyler Perry movie and I would have expected more from him. We are supposed to have 10 lines of text to be able to post a review. I don't have 10 lines of text to write about this review. If there were anything positive to say then maybe but as it stands I have nothing positive to say about this movie.

Why Did I Get Married is a movie about four couples that are college friends, who go through trials and obstacles within their marriage that become very challenging at times but they try their hardest, with the help and encouragement from their friends to try and makes things work for the best. The movie demonstrates the difficulties of trying to maintain a marriage when things such a work, children, and temptations get in the way. Ultimately, the theme of the movie is marriage. Janet Jackson plays the role of Patricia who is obviously a wife, friend and doctor. She wrote a book about the couples and their traditional "couple retreat". As the couples attend the retreat there are issues that arise that make them question "why did I get married?" Patricia and her husband Gavin, which is played by actress Malik Yoba, portray to have the perfect marriage. Patricia's profession is in communication and relationships so they are perceived as the happy couple with the least issues because of the knowledge Patricia has on relationships. The couple lost their one and only son in a tragic car accident. In the movie, the death of their son is not acknowledged until one of the friends Mike, played by Richard T. Jones shares personal information that Gavin confided in him about. Mike shares with the group that Gavin blamed his wife Patricia for the death of their son because she did not strap him in the car seat properly. Patricia confronts Gavin in the privacy in their home about the conversation in his home. Gavin expresses the lack of concern he feels from Patricia because she does not speak about their son. Patricia knows that she is looked upon as "Perfect Patty" and admits to feeling guilty for the death of her son. Mike and Sheila, played by Jill Scott are another couple who battle with problems in their relationship. Mike is no longer compassionate or attracted to his wife and makes jokes about her appearance and makes her feel like he will not want her until she loses weight. He does not put her first and does not treat her how a husband ought to treat his wife. Sheila brings along her "friend" Trina played by Denise Boutte who later admits to secretly having an affair with Mike. Mike finally comes clean about his feelings about Trina and the couple split. Terry who is played by Tyler Perry himself is married to Diane who is played by Sharon Leal. Diane is very successful in her career and puts a lot of time into it. The couple have two children and Terry seeks more attention from his wife and more passion put into their relationship. Diane does not give Terry a lot of time because of her career and forgets important events such as his birthday. Terry wants more children by Diane but she had her tubes tied without making that decision with her husband because she is focused on her career and does not want any more children. This takes a toll on their marriage. Angela is played by actor Tasha Smith and his married to actor Michael Jai White. Their marriage is very interesting because they argue and fight constantly. Angela is a very outspoken person and can be insensitive at times. She is unhappy about the current situation her and Marcus are in because he has a job at her hair salon which she feels without her he would not be bringing in his weight as a husband. Marcus also still has relations with the mother of one of his children who disrespects Angela by coming by her job and making remarks to the children about Angela. Just like in another Tyler Perry Movie, A Diary of a Mad Black Women, men and women experience many emotional and troubling times in their marriage that they fight through demonstrating how strong you have to be in a marriage sometimes. There are many motifs in the film that support the theme of marriage. All four couples have their own problems within their marriage as mentioned earlier, that they struggle with while trying to keep their marriage. Tyler Perry shows the pain, hurt, happiness, and more felt between each couple throughout the film. Overall, most of the movie has great, normal lighting. The couples retreat is in the mountains, but to keep the focus on the couples, natural lighting is used. The more serious scenes, there is not a bright light used to show the depth of the scene and a sense of reality. The theme of marriage is important and Tyler Perry does a great job by using four couples with four 8 different personalities to show the ups and downs marriage can hold.

I choose to the movie, Why Did I Get Married? Its a 2007 comedy-drama film written, produced, directed, and starring Tyler Perry, which came about after he did a play and also is the same name of this movie. This film stars Janet Jackson (Patrica), Jill Scott (Shelia), Malik Yoba (Gavin), Sharon Leal (Diane), Tasha Smith (Angela), Michael Jai White (Marcus), Richard T. Jones (Mike), and Keesha Sharp (Pam). Well, this film is about the changeling of maintaining a secure and happy relationship. Every so often eight married college friends go somewhere to reconnect with the other halves and see how everyone else are doing. They choose to go to Colorado for their annual week-long reunion. This was all great but everything shift when Anglea let's out a secret that Mike has been cheating on Shelia with Pam who is Shelia friend. Pam is also who the two invited to come on this trip. At this point secrets are a thing in the past. Apparently everyone has one. Over the time on this trip everyone has been second guessing Why Did I Get Married. This is the theme thru the movie.I feel Couples Retreat has the same theme. It's also about building and understanding what marriage is. This movie also showed four messed up marriages but people were afraid to see that things needed to change. These two similar I feel because they both are wondering why their together and how to simple it is to fix it.The lighting in this movie was very great. I was able to see the capture the feeling of them being outside by the fire in the dark. Most films look extra dark in scenes like that. I also enjoyed the lighting in the dark when Tyler was capturing the couples in their cabin rooms. I felt that was amazing. I feel anyone could capture great lighting in the day time but at night or in the dark is amazing. The music was on point in every scene. I was able to actually see and feel the scenes with the music. It helped the transitioning to the next scene or writing scene more real. I remember when Shelia was driving up the hill to meet with everyone and the gospel music came on. I really felt her strength and courage to fix her marriage. The whole scene was very powerful and spoke loudly to me because the music made it stand out. This movie is an amazing comedy, love, and great movie for relationships. Marriage is changeling but with the right two people you will know Why Did I Get Married..

The film "Why Did I Get Married?" is about a group of four couples who travel annually together to different locations to discuss their marriages and answer the question "Why Did I Get Married? One of the characters , Patricia, played by Janet Jackson is a psychologist and facilitates the discussions. Each of the couples has their problems. The first couple Mike (Richard T. Jones )and Sheila (Jill Scott) is struggling with infidelity. Mike has Sheila drive from Atlanta to Colorado, after she is removed from the plane because of her weight, while he and his assistant Trina fly up together. Terry (Tyler Perry) and Diane's (Sharon Leal) marriage is strained because he feels that she is married to her work and neglecting the marriage. Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White) are at odds because she is a successful business owner and he is currently between jobs and working for her. Patrica and her husband are crippled by grief from their past that they have never discussed. Each couple is on a journey to save their marriages by counseling among each other, but it seems that some of them are impossible to save. As their secrets are revealed they are forced to confront their issues and try to stay together or separate. The overall theme of the movie is that all marriages have problems, some are obvious (loud arguing, infidelity) while others are less obvious (grief, power struggles). Because there are four different couples, the there are many different angles and takes on relationship styles. Even though this may not be the type of movie that mainstream audiences will go see. It does have a universal appeal that many married couples can relate to. Many of the issues discussed in the movie may apply to any given couple at any time. While most people may not have all of the problems, at some point in their marriage, they may have to deal with similar issues such as infidelity, personality differences, a spouse choosing work over marriage, poor communication or unaddressed grief. This movie may serve more as a what- not- to -do manual than a help guide for saving a troubled marriage. Viewers who are familiar with Tyler Perry's films will recognize similar themes such as women who become empowered or develop a deeper meaning and understanding of their life. For example, when Sheila is separated from her husband for a period of time, she does some soul searching and discovers her self- worth. She loses weight, meets a man, Troy (Lamman Rucker) who treats her well. She eventually divorces her husband and marries Troy. When she shows up at Patricia's award dinner with her new husband, everyone is surprised by her transformation.
