Fantastic!
Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Excellent but underrated film
I have never been so moved by any piece of cinema as I was by the movie "Tiptoes". When the homeless man I stole this DVD off of told me it was an emotional powerhouse that I was ill equipped to handle, I wrote him off as being bitter about the whole incident- but no, I should I have heeded his warning. The acting in this film is transcendent, the cinematography serene, and the dialog comes across so natural and free that I was struck by how similar a reaction Kate Beckinsale had to Matthew McCoughaney's detailing of his little person circle jerk that he had in high school (that reaction naturally being arousal). An erotic and thought provoking thriller that I happily watch with my Grandmother every Wednesday.
Huge disappointment. Great cast, and it started out really promising, but by the end it was total Movie of the Week. Not sure what they were thinking - the movie seemed nicely offbeat during the first half but then it got bogged down in melodrama. I learned a lot about dwarfism of course, which seems like it was the point, but I didn't enjoy the movie and that's a shame. Kate Beckinsale is a terrific actress who can move effortlessly among genres, but she is ultimately wasted here in a part that a much less talented woman could have played. It was fun to see so many well-known Little People, and they were all excellent, but not enough to save the movie. Too bad, because this could have been something special.
This is not one of the worst movies I have seen so I can not figure out why people anyway do not like the movie. It is a pretty funny drama that sometimes makes you laugh and sometimes makes you realize what our precedences are. I also captured the lives of the dwarfs, how hard times they have during their growth. They seem to ve different but they own the same feelings just like the other people. About the movie, Gary Oldman plays a magnificent role as a little man. I really appreciate his performance. Besides, Kate did o good job as a mother who accepts what her child could be.The screenplay may not be enough for someones but I found the movie quite interesting that I have not imagined how the dwarfs can live inside the big people.
'Tiptoes' is dealing with serious themes using a combination of romantic comedy and melodrama tools. Life of dwarfs, their relationship with the 'big' people, human value behind appearances, prejudice and pride, all those are serious subjects, but they get no more than a schematic treatment in 'Tiptoes'.There is some good acting in this movie, resulting mainly from the desire of the dwarf actors to catch the opportunity and do a good movie about their world and their condition. Unfortunately they are not matched by their 'normal sized' partners who deal badly with the melodramatic situations and look embarrassed because the script is so bad and the situations they are supposed to act belong to old and bad quality cinema. Having Gary Oldman play a dwarf is an interesting casting exercise, but it is far from being Oscar stuff. This was a good opportunity, but it was completely missed. 'Tiptoes' should not shout for discrimination, it is simply not a good film. I just can hope that somebody will make in the future a better movie on this theme.
