This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
"Wild Side" is one of those little B type made movies that you as the viewer enjoy as it's plot has you to think and you soon find that no one is who they seem. And for a suspense thriller it has many twist and turns of betrayal and drama plus it's blended nice with spice of an erotic feel and much skin a good sexual tease. The story is interesting involving the world of money, banking and scandal as an attractive young woman with a double life sees this dangerous cat and mouse game that unfolds. Anyway Alex(the raw and sexy Anne Heche)is a bank employee by day and a sexy high class lingerie wearing call girl by night, and things get complex when one of her customers is the crazy and con man type guy Bruno(Christopher Walken)and things are more complex when Bruno's wife(played beautiful by Joan Chen) enters the picture for him and Alex both the world now is fast cash and kinky thrills as this little money laundering scheme will corrupt all and desire takes unexpected twist for all involved. Overall sexy suspense erotic thriller that's worth a watch.
I've always admired Christopher Walken's work. It hardly matters what he does. But here, he got away from me after the first few minutes, bouncing around in black silk capes, flapping blankets, puffing a monster cigar, wearing a wig that causes him to resembles maybe Mick Jagger circa 1980. It's a positive embarrassment.The rest of the performers aren't any better, and Steven Bauer is considerably worse, reenacting his Cuban character from "Scarface." Anne Heche and Joan Chen have a delicate love scene, the film's only redeeming feature. It's nice, seeing two beautiful women making love, especially knowing that at least one of them isn't entirely straight.The main plot, such as it is, has to do with Anne Heche being blackmailed into being a stooge for the LAPD. On her first encounter with an officer, he rapes her. Everybody's rotten and corrupt. I'm not arguing that this position isn't realistic, just that it's a little depressing.The story takes too long to develop and the actors don't quite put over the character touches. Allen Garfield, absent too long from the screen, acts like a moron and is unnecessary. It would have been better if, the moment the two young ladies realized they were in love, they'd gotten on an airplane with all the money they had at hand and flown to Guadalajara. They -- and the audience -- would have been spared the pain that came later.
My eyes were positively *glued* to the screen throughout this movie!!!! It had an enjoyable if somewhat farfetched plot, just the right amount of action and a memorable performance from both Anne Heche and Christopher Walken.
*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*I bought the unrated version of this movie. The video box cover has Christopher Walken rubbing his chin while staring at Anne Heche kissing Joan Chen's neck. The movie held promise. Based on this cover, I felt it was reasonable to expect Anne Heche to explore her love for Joan Chen. I was not disappointed.So Anne is a banker by day, hooker by night. It's never the other way around. You know, hooker by day, banker by night. That would be interesting. Anyway, Anne immerses herself in the world of money laundering with Walken and Chen. Anne falls in love with Chen in the process. This leads to the highlight of the movie. During a long lunch and a rendezvous in the bathroom, we see Anne fall slowly in love with the beautiful Joan Chen. This leads to their slow and VERY erotic sex scene. This pleased me. Some women look sexy with short hair and Anne Heche is one of them. She shows us her breasts on several occasions as well which is also a good thing. She is a strong actress as is Joan Chen so that made their falling in love scene that much sweeter. If I had to guess the movie was about anything, I would say it's about finding love where you find it. Anne falls in love with Joan, they have hot sex, and the viewer rejoices.
