I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Crappy film
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
This movie was a really good movie in my opinion. This movie was able to represent the constant feud between whites and black that still exist today. Additionally this movie illustrated how hard teenage romance is and how much effort that has to be put into it to make it work. One thing I think this movie could have worked was making the ending better. Another thing this movie did well was allowing its audience to be able to empathize with several of the characters and i think that a good thing because while watching the movie you tend to relate to the difficulties and experience of others.
pay attention, this movie will not shock you but it wouldn't kill you to watch it. For one the director is Robert De Niro, that's a guy that everyone knows in movies that are so awesome you would watch twice. Second, the producer who gave the director tips for the movie(he probably didn't need them) making it better, getting rid of flaws. Third, the character selection people, I mean the ending could have been extended to give us a story of what happened after Sunny's death. Never the less this movie accurately represent teens and how teens are love-struck and because of all the new feelings, they need a way to release this feeling of love. I empathize with "c" because at first he didn't care about finding a girlfriend but it soon changes to an important thing in his life.
First off, I would like to say that I think "A Bronx Tale" is one of the best movies I have ever seen. As an average movie watcher, this is one of the most emotional movies I have watched. What sticks out for me is the amazing soundtrack, which can really capture the emotion of the scenes, and what I think is an excellent performance by Chazz Palminteri, Robert De Niro, and Lillo Brancato. I wouldn't agree with people expecting it to be another "Goodfellas" or "Godfather", cause this movie is in a category of its own. It is an excellent coming of age story, and you really feel as though you grow up with Calogero(Lillo Brancato) and there is a strong emotional connection to the characters Sonny, a crime boss who takes Calogero under his wing(Chazz Palminteri), and Lorenzo, Calogero's father(Robert De Niro). Now I wouldn't consider this a spoiler, but the ending is probably the most emotional ending I have seen, and it left me so proud of the movie that it motivated me to write this review (My first review). I highly recommend this movie to everyone, whether or not you love gangster films, because I really feel as though it is a gangster movie, the plot involves more of the coming of age of Lillo Brancato's character, and less of the gangster aspect of the story. From what I understand there is also a Broadway play, and I would expect that to be golden as well, but overall PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE, it is that good. There are tons of amazing quotes and scenes and this movie leaves you with a deep lesson, which I really didn't experience in Godfather or Goodfellas, but I still consider those movies to be top notch. For this I applaud Robert De Niro and Chazz Palminteri and all the actors involved with this picture, and I hope that more people see this movie and really appreciate it.
Sonny is the man in the Bronx neighbourhood of Italian boy Calogero. A shooting witnessed by the boy (nicknamed C by Sonny) is the starting point of a lasting bond between the gangster and the boy. His father Lorenzo disapproves. C grows up under the wing of both men, torn between his own natural honesty and his fascination with Sonny. C's neighbourhood friends get involved in theft, and racially fuelled fights. When C falls for an African American girl, things don't get any better.....It's quite admirable for an actor with such screen presence as De Niro to not only try and emulate Scorcese's arguably finest hour Goodfellas, but to take a back seat when it comes to letting people show their range. But as admirable emulating Goodfellas is, you cannot help but compare this film to that, and ultimately, finding many flaws with the film. Yes, the source material is based on Palminteri's theatre production, but there are so many similarities, right to a special guest appearance from an old friend in the last scene. But it's still a wonderful film, seeing Henry, sorry C grow up and create this subliminal partition from the real world, and the fantasy he is living when he is with Sonny. The racial tension is a pivotal point in the films narrative, and it's like a metaphorical melting pot that bubbles more and more and the film concentrates more on C, rather than the tension between Lorenzo and Sonny. Some of the scenes are beautifully crafted, especially the dice scene, which is as funny as it is sinister. De Niro keeps an air of tension in the film, but divides it with the family life, and the mobster life, and when the two interact with each other, the fight for the alpha male in C's life is up there with some of the most thrilling scenes seen in crime drama. For a debut, De Niro has crafted something that isn't just wonderfully authentic, but keeps the audience involved in all aspects of the story.it's a shame that it's sadly fallen under the radar since it's release, but it's worth seeking out for the similarities between this and Goodfellas.
