This movie starts out with Batman using his shark repellent a stupid trope that has stuck with batman to this day. He's also trying to get rid of a giant cliché looking bomb it takes him what seems like an hour. And this movie just tries desperately to make the audience laugh but it comes off as stupid and unfunny.Anyone who likes Batman as a campy idiot is not a real batman fan just and twit who has never read a comic or watched Batman the Animated Series. Adam West sucked he was a bad actor and ruined Batman for almost 30's years in the public eye. You know what the first live action performance of Batman was? It was dark and brooding not campy and stupid, Lewis Wilson was the first live action performer to get batman right dark brooding and solemn. Batman and Robin (1997) sucked because it was stupid and campy and tried to recreate the Adam West era which also sucked and ruined batman for years. You know who's lighthearted and cheesy? Superman, but no they made him dark and brooding so he'd be more like batman, which doesn't work because Superman is not Batman his costume is bright his villains are campy and he has incredible superpowers. They made this movie back then because they know idiots will go and see it just because it has Batman in it.For people who may say they like to see Batman be funny and they don't like normal batman because they think he's an "emo". Batman is not an emo he witnessed his parents get murdered in front of him and devoted his life to fighting crime doesn't sound very emo to me or funny for that matter. But they don't even mention the tragic pasts of Batman or Robin there just two guys who fight crime for no reason. And this entire show was made to make fun of Batman because the creator never read any Batman comics and he just wanted to make money because people knew about Batman. So in all honesty it is fact that if you like Adam West Batman you hate Batman and are not a real fan you just like a stupid show with horrible writing and jokes bad acting that was made by idiots who didn't know a thing about batman thus by proxy making you an idiot for liking this movie.

When I sat to watch this movie I did not have any information about it and I expected nothing at all. But I received a lot. This might not be movie of excellent quality, but it surely is the most comic- bookish movie I have ever seen. It's not so much a movie as it is comic-book brought to life on big screen. Comic fans who take comics too seriously probably hate this adaptation, but for the rest of us, who simply love fun comics provide, this is probably the best Batman movie ever. It is modernized and parodied version of old Batman series from 40's. Dark component is kicked out and what is left is hilarious and entertaining action full of wacky lines. Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Cat-woman join together to blackmail the whole world. Clash of their super-villain egos while they are trying to cooperate is hilarious. Their looks, speech and behavior are totally comic-bookish, and Lee Meriwether is incredibly sexy in Cat- woman costume. All four, together with Batman and Robin and whole story- line, exaggerate to the point of going to far, but manage to balance at the very edge of good taste and successfully avoid to tumble into the abyss of complete nonsense. Add to that sharks filled with dynamite, countless gadgets, all labeled with big banners "bat-this" and "bat-that", banalized chases, and bombs that take forever to explode, and you'll get unforgettable comic-book comedy that leaves no one indifferent. This is one of those movies you can either love or hate. There's nothing in between. Oh, yes, I must not forget "ouch", "splash", "boom" and similar strip clouds that pop up in all sizes and colors all around the screen during action scenes.I haven't seen all Batman movies just yet, but I did see at least one from every series, so I can say with some certainty that this one is my favorite Batman. 9/10Could be any one of them, but which one?Pretty fishy what happened to me on that ladder. Where there's a fish, there could be Penguin.Wait! It happened at the sea. See? C for Cat-woman.Yet, that exploding shark was pulling my leg. The Joker? It all adds up to a sinister riddle. Riddle-er... Riddler?

This slice of classic camp is a love-it or hate-it movie. Personally, I'm in the former minority as this colourful and supremely silly romp is right up my street. They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore, more's the pity, and the obvious yet delightful jokes in this film are a far cry from the crude humour that seems to populate the movies today. Packed with lots of comic-book action, colourful characters in colourful costumes, cheesy and fun special effects and lots of over-emphasis of dialogue which serves to mock straight-laced adventure movies, BATMAN is a breath of fresh air in a stale, dry world.Adam West and Burt Ward alternatively mug knowingly at the camera or incredibly act seriously as the pair of dapper heroes who somehow bring style to the sight of two men running down the street in tights and capes. They are ably supporting by the delightful quartet of villains; from the seductive Catwoman to Cesar Romero's impossible to miss over-the-top turn as the Joker, unable to stop himself laughing maniacally all the while. Frank Gorshin is overlooked as the fiendish Riddler, filling the skies with his crazy riddles, while the inimitable Burgess Meredith hams it up for all he's worth as the Penguin. There are many memorable jokes and scenes (often combined) in this film to enjoy. My favourite the bomb gag where Batman finds himself with a hissing bomb, but his efforts to get rid of it are hampered at every turn by mothers with prams, a marching band, children, even ducks! All leading to the classic understated line "some days you just can't get rid of a bomb"! The amusing action scenes are harmless and non-violent enjoyment, the best being the submarine battle at the finale where the air is filled with coloured words like "thwack" and "smack" as in the television series. The plot is ludicrous, yes, but packed with incident and with a pleasing eye for false logic which never falters. Although strictly aimed at a youth market, Batman is enjoyable for all and definitely needs to be seen by those nostalgic for the '60s or the superheroes of old. Great fun!

Batman: The Movie (1966): Dir: Leslie H. Martinson / Cast: Adam West, Burt Ward, Lee Meriwether, Burgess Meredith, Cesar Romero: Pathetic campy comic book embarrassment with actors looking more like overgrown kids in a pyjama party then superheroes. Batman and his sidekick Robin must foil a world domination scheme by Catwoman, The Penguin, The Joker, and The Riddler. It is a surprise that the kitchen sink wasn't in on this deal. Cardboard art direction with words such as "pow", "whack" and "wham" when violence occurs. I can think of a few more words to describe the action such as "sucks," "stupid" and "idiotic." Director Leslie H. Martinson gives viewers a rubber shark that Batman hilariously beats on with loud hollow thuds, and a whale that just happened to cross a missile thus saving our heroes from certain death. Terrible acting by Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin who look similar to kids on Halloween night. Lee Meriwether, Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith are featured among villains and they look about as stupid as our heroes donning what appears to be bad Halloween costumes. There was obviously anticipation upon this film's release due too comic book fans but the delivery is far below juvenile easily becoming one of the worst films of the year. It is truly hideous and should be hit with a missile as well. I'm sure no whale would spare it. Score: 1 / 10
