I love this movie so much
Simply A Masterpiece
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Along Came Polly is a very good romantic comedy. It tells the story of a stable man with a good job falling for a woman who is not so stable in life. It really covered all the bases of a good movie, and kept me enthused all the way through. I am not too much of a Hoffman fan myself, but I think he had some of the funniest parts in the whole movie. Great time!8 Stars
Along Came Polly is a pretty cute movie that's very funny, and best watched with a mostly vacant mind. I own this movie and have seen it close to fifty times; I've gotten to the point where I'm noticing flaws and trying to rewrite the plot. For those who have seen it less than ten times, it's a great flick. A man who depends on structure in his life finds his world turned upside down after his new bride leaves him for another man on their honeymoon. Enter Jennifer Aniston, who seems typecast to play perpetually flighty, grungy girlfriends. As advertised by the title, along comes Polly and shows the structured Ben Stiller how to really live.Without a doubt, the funniest parts of the movie are the Philip Seymour Hoffman scenes. He plays Stiller's "wingman"; everything out of his mouth is hilarious. Along Came Polly is a great light romantic comedy to watch with your friends, or even during date night—but only if you're already really, really comfortable with your partner. There's a pretty embarrassing sex scene and a gross toilet scene that might make things awkward.
Along Came Polly (2004): Dir: John Hamberg / Cast: Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Debra Messing, Hank Azaria: Romantic comedy about chance and risks. Ben Stiller and Debra Messing get married and are off on their honeymoon but an invitation to go scuba diving ends in infidelity. Heart-broken Stiller tries to move on and eventually encounters old school mate Jennifer Aniston as a waitress at a party. He decides to ask her out, which leads to spicy foods that make him break out in a sweat. He also gets caught up in Latin dancing, which leaves him standing at the side. And to top it off she has a half blind ferret that bumps into everything. Director John Hamberg times the jokes perfectly and is backed by a fine cast. Stiller and Aniston have fine comedic chemistry but thankfully they are both given the background and payoff to pull this above routine. Phillip Seymour Hoffman steals scenes as a washed out actor who comes up with a vulgar term called "sharted" at a party. Messing is effective as Stiller's ex-wife who moves on to what she believes is better potential. Hank Azaria plays the hunk whom Messing cheats on Stiller for. He is a scuba instructor but apparently he instructs her in other activities. What isn't appealing is its apparent anti-marriage theme as if to say that all marriages end in infidelity. With that said this is one of the misfire comedies to come along. Score: 5 / 10
There are two priceless scenes in this movie. In one Hank Azaria (Homer Simpson) plays Claude a French nudist skin diving instructor who seduces Ben Stiller's wife on the first day of their honeymoon. Ben catches them en flagrante wearing enormous yellow skin diving flippers. In the other, Ben Stiller takes private Salsa dancing lessons from a tall, handsome, gay Cuban (Jsu Garcia). It reminded me of Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot.The rest of the movie feels fairly tepid compared with these comic masterpieces.Philip Seymour Hoffman played a character a cross between Danny Bonaduce and Chris Farley. It was as if he were on the wrong set. His loud style of humour did not fit into the film. The plot is similar to What's Up, Doc? with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neil. The movie works because you care about Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston. Even though they are badly mismatched, you can see how they would complement each other, and root for them to get together.
