Wow! Such a good movie.
So much average
I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
I love Ratchet and Clank. I grew up with them! I think this is a great entry into film, for fans. It lives up to the characters insomniac created and makes some great references to the games. The animation is slick with good detail, it is a good looking film and stays close to the art style of the games. The story is a rehash of the first game and as a result they had to cut it down to fit film length, this meant the character development was impacted pretty heavily, particularly for Ratchet.I enjoyed the film a lot, however if you are new to the series I imagine you'll feel like there's just something missing.
Ratchet an clank is the film adaptation of the famous video game franchise created by insomniac games, this movie i was initially very excited for when they announced it because i being a big fan of the franchise loved the idea of this film and to see what they would do with the property in film adaptation, although i was somewhat disappointed with the film i still had fun watching it and gave me a good few laughs.Plot The first thing i noticed when i was watching the film is that the writers relied heavily on the fans and the game, this aspect isn't necessarily a bad thing but if the whole film relies on the fans and jokes that only the fans will only understand it doesn't really attract people that are only witnessing it for the first time which in my opinion is distracting, another aspect this film relies on is cheap humour, cheap humour is a major turn off in films in general in my opinion and it is extremely obvious that the humour is more aimed for the demographic of children which isn't a bad thing but personally i do not like any type of cheap humour. The discussion of the plot is hard for me because even though it has its problems it does do these characters justice and i personally enjoyed myself through the majority of the film with the clever jokes and call backs to the game(in the form of the weapons arsenal)this leads to the movie being extremely self aware which is a mix between a blessing and a curse, but the problem i have with this movie is the fact that the set up of the actual plot takes up a lot of time and ultimately leads to a dragged out 2nd act and fairly OK 3rd act,the introductions of certain aspects of this universe isn't handled in the greatest way expecting the viewer to remember all these planets, characters, locations and motivations.Characters The characters in this film range from heavily based and inspired by the game to very generic and stereotypical, this range between characters is quite apparent and leads to the character interactions being predictable and the personalities of some characters being generic and underdeveloped, the designs of the characters are extremely loyal to the games and one aspect of this film i absolutely respect and happy that they decided to have relatively simple but loyal designs, easily the best character in this film is quark, the character of quark in this film is extremely loyal to the games and is his usual over confident, cocky self which was the biggest highlight of the film for me in a movie filled with stereotypical characters.Overall i have mixed opinions on this film and easily the best video game adaptation so far by default, even though i love the franchise and was a big part of my childhood this film did not exceed or fall under my expectations and was an enjoyable experience and a good way to spend an hour and a half if u are a fan of this franchise but for me this film was extremely average. 6 out of 10
If there was ever a movie I could kick myself for going to see it would be this one, I mean what the heck was I thinking going to see this joke of a movie? And the theater I went to see it in charge nine dollars to go see it and it was without a shadow of a doubt the worst movie I ever spend on a movie ticket. If You wanted to see a movie based off a video game you be better off watching a fan made video game movie because they have done a better job than this joke of a movie. At first it started off with a good promise to have been a family movie but as the movie went on I was waiting for the movie to be over. It just got worse as the movie went on all this movie is about is a retelling on the story of Ratchet & Clank which I never play any of the games and thanks to this movie it's highly doubtful that I will ever play them. The voice acting in the game is some of the most disappointing I ever heard it's like the actors and actresses didn't even try just like they were there to pick up a paycheck which from what I learn this movie bomb so it's highly the DVD sales will make up the differenceThe Animation in the movie had is fair share of impressive work but it just feels like you're watching a video game movie nothing more nothing less.I swear I couldn't even begin to rant about how much I hated this movie if there was one movie I wish I didn't see it would be this one because it is just awful and such a waste of time do yourself a favor never watch this movie.I give Ratchet & Clank an 2 out of 10
Best suited to an audience over the age of around 15 through adult because of the subtle humor and parodies of traditional animated movies as well as traditional films, plots & characters; best appreciated by an older audience. Animation, modeling, layout, effects, lighting were good (not quite up to the high standards of "The Jungle Book", but far better than most. Character creation contained some parodies (spoofing) and were spot on. Voicing was quite good despite using some name actors which often are not convincing in animation voicing. Story line was creative (not the usual formula dumbed down rewrite). An interesting Canadian, US, and China collaboration.
