This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Best movie ever!
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS feels like a 1950s B-movie monster flick transported to the 1970s, where it receives a dash of cheesy fashions and a whole helping of female nudity to bring it up to date with film standards from that decade. It's undoubtedly a cheap and trashy movie, very poorly made and acted, although B-movie lovers will probably get a kick out of it anyway.Cult movie actor William Smith (he of the numerous biker movies) plays a government agent investigating a string of murders where the guys have all died during sex. It turns out that a sinister government experiment is behind these deaths, alongside a horde of killer women who literally strip and kill. The special effects are limited to some cool contact lenses and a few scenes of 'bee vision' while the acting is of the standard of a normal softcore flick. Former Hammer starlet Victoria Vetri (WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH) supplies some of the glamour. The whole thing descends into plot less inanity around the halfway mark, with one sex scene that goes on for ten interminable minutes before something finally happens. The cheesy climax is hardly worth the wait, either.
It's hard to believe 1973's "Invasion of the Bee Girls," also known as "Graveyard Tramps" (Yeah, that's a good title – rolling my eyes), was written by Nicholas Meyer, who went on to direct significant films like "Star Trek II," "The Day After" and "Star Trek III," but Meyer has stated that his original script was hatcheted by a girlfriend of one of the producers. He was furious and called the rewrite "dumbed-down stuff for the Paramus drive-in crowd." The title tells you everything you need to know about the plot: A growing group of women in a small desert town are intentionally infected by a queen bee gene (or whatever) and start killing any guy with whom they copulate. The movie plays like a typical Syfy flick, but more dull, with early 70's décor and lots of female nudity. While there's some "good naked" in this flick, like the motorcycle girl, it's mostly what that Seinfeld episode called "bad naked." Take, for instance, the housewife and her husband near the end or the housewife converted to the hive. Even Anitra Ford, who has a stunning face and full head of hair, looks too thin and un-alluring in her nude shots, but I'm sure some guys like non-curvy women. Not me. Victoria Vetri looks great, but even she has a sorta "bad naked" shot at the end when William Smith's character saves her from the bee girls by picking her up like a sack of potatoes.Speaking of Victoria, she plays a quality female protagonist and comes across very intelligent, as well as attractive (naturally). Sadly, this was her last film. Smith plays a great male protagonist and so does the towering Cliff Osmond as the police captain. While the aforementioned nudity might incite your interest, don't get too excited as the filmmaking is unimaginative and the way the story plays out is tedious, especially for a film that only runs 85 minutes. I find it perplexing that notable critics like Ebert, Siskel and Maltin hail this as a "guilty pleasure" or whatever (no doubt solely due to being "breast men"). Really, it's only fascinating as a cultural artifact. The film was shot in Santa Clarita and Newhall, California.GRADE: C-
An agent for the State Department named "Neil Agar" (William Smith) is sent to Peckham, California to determine if there is any connection between the death of a man and a local top secret government research facility called "Brandt Industries". Not long after his arrival, other men begin dying at an alarming rate. The cause of death is sexual exhaustion in almost all of the cases. Now, as one might expect from a B-movie this one has some typical flaws. First, the lighting in several scenes was clearly inadequate. Likewise, the special effects were somewhat basic as well. In addition to that, there was quite a bit of nudity. Some of it enhanced a particular scene but at other times it didn't seem necessary or even that remarkable. However, what I did find rather remarkable was that, minus the nudity, this is the type of film one might expect to see back in the 1950's. It has that type of a plot. Be that as it may, for a "Bee-movie" this wasn't that bad.
ow we know how the terrorist slipped through and almost set off a bomb over Detroit. Government agents were busy investigating why men are dying of heart attacks after sex with their wives. This was a running joke in the film as people were advised to avoid sex. That went over well. The basic premise is the takeover of the Earth from men by killing them. Obviously, all me will willingly engage in extramarital sex with any woman who seems willing. The film stars William Smith (Any Which Way You Can, Conan the Barbarian, Red Dawn), and features one of the original "Price is Right" models, Anitra Ford, as the Head Bee Girl. Also stars Victoria Vetri, the 1968 Playboy Playmate of the Year (and we do get to see why!).The best scene is when they transform a new widow into a Bee Girl. After the transformation process, Ford plants a big kiss on the new initiate, which drives the other Bee Girls into a frenzy and lots of big natural breasts are exposed.Another great scene occurred when Smith runs into rescue Vetri before she can be transformed. He grabs her naked body like a sack of flour.Great B movie fare.
