Mita and Raj Batra, an affluent couple from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, are grappling with getting their daughter admission into an English medium school. But there is one big problem. Their zubaan is Hindi, and the elitist snobs won’t let the Hindi speaking hoi-polloi fit in.

Beautiful, moving film.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
A movie made in India but every person around the world can relate himself/herself to the theme of this wonderful piece of work which is based on the fact that, we live in a world where your class/standard is determined by the language you speak (and not just language by the way) and this movie honestly portrays the challenges faced by those who are discarded from the main stream just on the basis of the language they speak. The best thing about this movie is that it perfectly delivers this important message without lacking anywhere in the entertainment front (filled with humor and brilliant acting). I am sure you will fall in love with this Raj & Mitthu (sorry "Honey") pair instantly. Irfan as the obedient and madly in love with his wife kind of husband and Saba Qamar as a demanding and dominating wife is such a fun to watch. This movie will revive your faith in Indian Cinema which has been damaged by many Indian Superstars who cash on their loyal fan followings for grand box office collection with nothing to offer in return (a descent and original piece of work is what we expect)."Talent speaks the language of a genius, surprisingly it's not the languages we all speak."
The acting was great, the message was also good, but somewhere along the way movie lost it.There were a lot of plotholes and the sending your daughter to a govt school did not seem realistic.
With the utter non-sense of movies plaguing Bollywood these days, it was a fresh breeze to watch this gem of a movie. Really brings back my faith that Bollywood still has people who know the art of telling a story. If you have not watched this, take my word and watch it. You will not regret.
Hindi Medium takes me back to my favourite Hrishikesh Mukherjee movie, Chupke Chupke (1975), a movie that celebrates the spirit of Hindi. Forty-Two years down the line and we have Hindi Medium that abides by the sermon "English is not a Language, but a Class". Saket Chaudhary (director of Pyar ke Side Effects and it's sequel) comes up with a socially relevant movie that takes on the admission system in Delhi. The movie is also a satire on Delhi's class system that is so evident. Irfan Khan is such an effortless actor when it comes to comedy and matching steps with him is Pakistani actress, Saba Qamar. Amrita Singh has by now mastered the 'mean' act.Deepak Dobriyal deserves all the applause for his sensitive portrayal. He is one expressive actor. The actress who plays his wife is equally good. A very well written movie that gives a breezy headstart to the upcoming summer holidays.
