Thacker Pass: Mining The Sacred
In Nevada’s remote Thacker Pass, a fight for our future is playing out between local Indigenous tribes and powerful state and corporate entities hellbent on mining the lithium beneath their land. Vancouver-based Lithium Americas is developing a massive lithium mine at Thacker Pass, but for more than two years several local tribes and environmental organizations have tried to block or delay the mine in the courts and through direct action.

E 9 10 22 - 9 10 23 is a series of films created by E.C. Lewin over the course of one year. Each film was created in a single day, using archival footage and original filmed content. Cinema is a time consuming medium, where an individual projects completion typicaly consumes e several months to years. Though painting and scluptres are no stranger to the prolonged creative process, the traditional visual artist owns one tool the filmaker doesnt. The sketch book, the visual diary, the access to experimentation on a minor scale. This film is a collection of “cinematic sketches”, documenting the themes, editing techniques, aesthetics, and personal journey of the filmmaker from the 10th of October 2022 to the 10th of October 2023.
