A Disappointing Continuation
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Ok so I'm going to start of with this, I did not like the dream sequences and the movie took WAY too long to get to the good stuff.Once the killer starts killing, over 75% of the movie is already over, meaning the kills are fast and each character gets very little screen time to run away or fight back. The killer is by far way more charismatic than the first one. This movie is FAR more aware than it's previous film of what it is. But as my title says, it's just funny after watching both movies in a row and seeing the change from early 80s to late 80s. Late 80s was in your face, was self aware, gelled hair all of the place, and much less forgiving. Very enjoyable just very slow for the first....hour and ten minutes or so...
Courtney, the younger sister of the survivor from the first movie is now a mature adult, but is suffering from major issues of her own. Her sister is in a mental institution and Courtney keeps having vivid hallucinations about a wannabe rocker with a drill shaped like a guitar. Courtney convinces her Mom to go stay with her friends for a Slumber Party, but her friends get killed off by the killer she sees in her dreams. Is Courtney going crazy? Or is the killer actually real. This is entertaining cheese of the highest degree. It is NOT a good movie, it's terrible, but that's the point! I had a blast with this movie and I'm not afraid to admit it. This is purportedly a sequel, but it doesn't feel like it. The only connection is Courtney and her sister. I'm a guy that hated the first movie and the third sequel, but I love this one. It does a great job of making you wonder if it's reality or all in Courtney's head. I also enjoyed all the horror homages! Sally Burns is a homage to Marilyn Burns of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Courtney & Mrs. Bates (homage to Psycho) We even get Officer Krueger & Voorhies! How cool is that? They even changed the neighbors from the original to "The Craven's" There is some decent psychological stuff here from the killer. It tried to be more than just a cheesy slasher, while keeping the cheese level delightfully high. I appreciated that. This is also filled with everything you love about 80's horror movies! It's filled with gore, nudity, silliness, and hot chicks. And, of course, the dated dialog! I loved it. Gorehounds will be pleased. We get some gory drill deaths, a handburger (No. That's not a typo!) lots of blood and a lot of zitpuss! (yuck) Crystal Bernard makes for a likable lead. She's easy on the eyes and gives a good performance. I liked her a lot. I liked Kimberly McArthur as Amy, too. Why didn't she survive? She was credible and sympathetic. Atanas Ilitch is a hoot as the Driller Killer! This guy was clearly having a blast in his role. He has some great one-liners and I cracked up several times from his performance. "Rock and Roll never dies baby!" Juliette Cummins is one of my favorite horror hotties! Who cares about her performance. In all seriousness, she did fine. Joel Hoffman is one of the most annoying horror characters ever! He was awful as T.J and I wanted to shove my fist down his throat to shut up that annoying voice of his. The ending is actually well done, even if it's confusing. It leaves it up to viewer interpretation. I enjoyed myself thoroughly! I'm a lover of cheesy horror and this one is near the top of my list. How on earth does the original have a higher rating than this movie? I'd rather have my nuts clamped than endure the first and third movie, but I'll watch this one again for sure. Avoid the first and third like the plague! Buy a few beers and have a ball with this bad boy. 5.5/10
Wow...just...Wow. This movie is on my list of worst horror movies of all time. I really wish "0" was a rating option for this crap. I know sequels are supposed to be "not so great" but this is a waste of effort. I'm guessing the makers of the this movie were just thinking of the money. The original was a "B" movie at it's best. Slumber Party Massacre 2 has no plot, not even bad acting but worse and it's ripping off of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" which is one of the best horror movies of all time. I don't get people on here saying it's a "10/10"? Do yourself a favor and just watch the first one and pretend the sequels don't exist. Glad I didn't buy the box set of the 3 movies and rented the sequels first. Paying for that would have been really annoying.Brutal.
I have certainly never seen a movie in my life that makes me feel quite like Slumber Party Massacre 2 does. It is one of those movies that is so horrible, so cheesy, so nonsensical, and so bizarre, that you will simply be thinking to yourself the entire way through "I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS EXISTS". Somehow it's disturbing simply because it is an actual movie! This is an effect that a lot of B movies and horror movies can produce, especially from the 80's - but I think SPM2 just might wear the crown as the king of that specifically.I definitely do not agree with the movies IMDb rating of 2.8 out of 10. Not in any way. You should feel privileged to be viewing something that is this BONKERS and was somehow actually greenlighted, financed, and released as a "real movie"!!! It is a rare occasion. It is a diamond in the rough. It's one thing when a movie like this is created and it's not entertaining, but this movie will light your brain on fire and keep it torched. You won't stop WTF'ing for its entirety. This is a rare movie that screams with it's own innovative personality. This is a movie that doesn't care what makes sense to you or any of it's viewers. It's wigged out to the max and that's the way it wants to be. Even the editing was stylish, impressive, and effective during the nightmares sequences and some of the more horrific parts. This movie has more style than the majority of horror - just like the Driller Killer himself. This one isn't even about the gore. Although there is enough gore to keep any horror fan satisfied. It's about weird ideas and one of the most ridiculous and pointless (in a good way) BAD GUYS ever! No one can forget the goony Driller Killer in this. The guitar-drill is probably the coolest horror villain weapon in history. It never gets old.Forget linear stories. This is a ride I wouldn't mind taking over and over and OVER again. Let it drill into your mind!!!! If anything, it's worth it just to see the most intense zit popping scene I never could have imagined...
