A group of American teens comes to Ireland to visit a friend who takes them on a camping trip in search of the local, fabled magic mushrooms. When the psychedelics start taking hold, the panicked friends are attacked by ghostly creatures; but how can they determine whether what they are experiencing is reality or hallucination?

If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Shrooms falls into the rather typical horror plot of a group of good lucking teens in the middle of the woods with a killer running amok. The difference with this one, they were all off it after taking mushrooms, and they were randomly in Ireland. Every cliché you can imagine, plus the most shocking waste of the brilliant Sean McGinley that you can imagine, how dare they have given him such a crap role. There were some interesting bits, some of the imagery was rather good, especially the moments in the woods, the camera-work is rather good, and it has the talking cow, which is arguably the best bit of the film. The revelation of who the killer is can also be deemed somewhat of a success (I kept being reminded of The Ward.)I think a 5 is a fair reflection of the film, some positives, but way too much wasted potential. It's watchable, but only on a rare occasion.
Here we go again...... bunch of asinine kids out for kicks and it all goes wrong... like the people who decided they'd make a movie called SHROOMS. They ought to have called it STOOLS because it stinks like (you know what). Of course, as is required for just about all crappy amateurish horror flicks, most of it has to be shot in almost-totally-black conditions, and with a distinct lack of acting or directorial ability. In this cinematic extravagance, a blue filter is used, too, most creative! Thank goodness this was one of a large bulk lot of DVDs I bought for a very low sum. No real money wasted, and I kept busy online while the flick was running, didn't need much attention at all. All in all, a lousy movie. On the plus side, it has subtitles.
This movie is bad to the point where there are no redeeming qualities about it.First, the movie idea featuring bored over privileged and pretentious college kids wanting to trip on magic mushrooms is a little interesting. Also, let's throw in their host. Some English sheep shagger who happens to be the world's leading expert on psychedelic mushrooms. His first warning to everyone was not to eat the shrooms with the black eye in the middle because it could kill you. If it doesn't kill you, it could open a dimensional gateway to a nightmarish world.Second, all those things combined could have an interesting movie. However, the movie's execution of the above theme was dreadful!Third, as the movie digresses, the lines between reality and bad tripping become blurred. You can't tell what's really going on. Fourth, as this non cohesive mess of a movie begins to unravel, the body count rises.Fifth, I'm not sure what role or value added the back woods, inbreed, half wits provided for the movie?Sixth, it appears Tara (Linsey Haun), the main character, went from being chased by hooded demons to the one doing all the killing? The movie does nothing to show that transition. This movie was a mess. Perhaps the makers and everyone involved were on shrooms during the filming.
This movie has had some terrible reviews (I've just read them all), I saw this a while ago on TV and wasn't sure, so I thought I'd watch it again just to make sure. I'm a film fan who lives in the UK and is a former mushie man.Firstly, yes I agree with all the negative reviews posted here (plot, obvious twist, annoying English guy, mushies growing on fallen trees etc.) but let's remember this is a low budget movie aimed at teens. Given the restraints of movie making some artistic license is always needed and the financial backers will have been concerned with the negative effect such blatant references to class 'A' drug taking would have on US box office takings so I'm sure the finished movie is a compromise. However on a second viewing I've decided I like this. The whole "I'm on mushies and I don't know what to do!" is quite well done, as is the limited use of psychedelic special effects (shrooms are usually more cerebral with illusions rather than hallucinations and delusions). The cinematography is really nice (35mm?) although Ireland isn't really known for it's pine forests. The music although incidental really works. The gem of the whole movie is Lindsey Haun (for the boys) she manages to look fit throughout the whole film despite being covered in mud, having fits and generally freaking out. The "locals" and mysterious phantoms from the naughty boys home are pretty scary (Silent Hill/Deliverence). As for the plot/twist, yes okay I could see it coming but the phone in the ambulance? Is the whole film her version of events for the courts? I don't know.Overall I'd say yes too this one. I think most of the "problems" with this movie come from post production. With some Fairy Dust on the effects and re-dubbing the English dude to a chirpy Irish guy It'd turn the whole thing around, or is it too early for a remake? Really had some potential this one, just got a bit side-tracked. Still worth a seven if only because they all freak out on shrooms.
