I love this movie so much
The Worst Film Ever
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Whereas the Middle School movie was fun to watch, the Wimpy Kid series always presented a problem for me: it makes being that age seem as terrible as it really was. When Dog Days opens with a crowded pool scene, I didn't laugh at the predicament; I cringed at how unappealing it looked. Much of the rest of the movie had the same problem. Greg only seems to make things worse for himself with each scene, such that I lost empathy for him and just wanted to get out of his world. The main highlight is Roderick, and his storyline with the miserable Heather Hills. The ending scene where he destroys her party should have been a hilarious climax, but doesn't work for me. He isn't used enough in this film for my tastes. The series never really seemed to be putting in too much effort, but this entry feels like the laziest.
It's summer vacation time, and all Greg (Zachary Gordon) wants to do is play video games. His dad Frank (Steve Zahn) is not happy, and sends him outside. With his school crush Holly (Peyton List) spending her time coaching at the country club, Greg decides to spend his time there. Only he needs to use Rowley Jefferson (Robert Capron) pretending to be his guest. That's because Rowley's father disapproves of him. Then there is Greg's brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick). He threatens to expose Greg's lies unless he gets invited himself to play with his band at Holly's sister Heather (Melissa Roxburgh)'s party.Greg is most annoying when he's lying and scheming. It would be better if he had more reluctance to do some of these things. It makes him too unlikeable. However it's great when he learns his lesson. I guess that's what this is all about. His friendship with Rowley is at the center of this film. But it's also great to see that Holly isn't simply a 2-dimensional character.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog DaysWhatever knowledge children learn during the school year is quickly undone by the high concentration of chlorine in the public pool.Fortunately, the summering student and his older brother in this comedy are privileged to swim in a private pool.In order to get his dad (Steve Zahn) off his back during summer, Greg (Zachary Gordon) tells him he has a job at his friend Rowley's (Robert Capron) country club.In actuality, Greg spends his day poolside with his brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick) hitting on club member Holly (Peyton List). But their days in the shade are numbered when Rowley's parents discover Greg persuaded Rowley to lie to them. The second sequel in the kid-lit series, Dog Days delivers the same levels of laughs as the previous films but lacks some serious focus.Besides, swimming in a private pool means you won't get to miss any school due to pinkeye. I've had enough of this inter-species romance in family films. Before Avatar I thought the line would have been drawn at Turner and Hooch. You know what he was really doing with that dog, that's why he gave it beer. But anyway, this movie is worse than mashing my pud with a handful of sandpaper, not just because of the fact that there's a skinny dipping scene that has no nudity and teases you like Avatar but worse because even though you do wanna see the blue monkey lady's nipples you know they aren't real anyway then you end up spilling popcorn and Mike and Ike's into your bare lap then get kicked out of the theatre for indecent exposure and screaming, rather than now where it would be have edgy and raw to show everything, but also because the film is totally unrealistic. It says it's about a wimpy kid, and even though, true, the butthole kid is a total wimp, he succeeds in the end. I thought this was gonna be something real, where the dweeb gets pounded by jocks for 90 minutes, but nope, just another one of Hollywood's should-be abortions. It was also morally reprehensible for the director to make a film wherein it is implied the hero rapes his dog throughout the film off camera, as if that's a quality to be commended.
