I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Highly Overrated But Still Good
Fresh and Exciting
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Very poor movie overall. It had its chance. Nice battle scenes, nice actors, nice effects and great costumes. But the music is slow and boring, as is the entire action. There is no plot, no suspense, the pace is slow, the actors are just staring and waiting a lot. Lots of scenes are completely unrealistic. And there is too much cheap usage of exaggerated pathetism and too many cheap clichés. The prince and the princess are good and pure, the villains are mean and stupid and say exactly the mean and standard lines they are expected to say.
the first good point - atmosphere, recreated with subtle art. the second - performance of actors far from cage of mannerism. more important - the management of each scene. love story, historical fragments, moral lessons and the game with basic values of life is not easy job. but, in this case, the solutions was smart and interesting. because it is more than story of an hero in dark times. it is more than tale about fight and history in "ad usum delphini"clothes a map of existence , sacrifice and questions in a period who may be the present. only skin is different. the great virtue is science to present a credible face of Crusaides in middle of historical adaptation fever. and result is not bad.
I actually put this in to my Netflix Instant Queue and then avoided it like so many others that I told myself I would get around to. After a few days I figured I would give it a shot. The movie had wonderful acting and the camera work was beautiful! I watched the American version and have since read that the American version is a combination of two movies that are almost twice as long. I will be spending my weekend looking for a copy of both movies to purchase and the American version as well. I will also be looking for the books. I have read that there is now a fourth book so I cant wait to find all of these so I can relive in over and over. Wonderful movie, stellar cast and beautifully shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I hope you find this helpful in your next movie selection.
Summary: Arn, the son of a Swedish noble is sent to a monastery to be educated, where his fighting skills become obvious and he is trained to be a knight. Following political intrigue, Arn has to travel to the Holy Land to serve as a Knight Templar.Review: Firstly, the movie I rate and the movie that is internationally published is made of 2 Swedish movie: Arn (2007) and Arn 2 (2008). The original movies are about 4 hours each, with the international movie being little over 2 hours long. I browsed through the 2 Swedish movie and have to say, you don't miss much in the 2 hours that have been cut out. It's mostly romantic stuff and a lot of talking. The international version is probably better, 4 hours of this movie would definitely be too long for me. Anyway, it's a good movie, surprised to see one this good from Sweden, where the only movie export seem to be a lot of third rate Wallander thrillers. I like the multilingual aspect of the movie; English, Swedish and some Arabic. The acting is good, editing, filming, script, everything decent, nothing really to criticize. Watch it on a Sunday afternoon.Highlight: The Templar ambushNotable Actors: Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia)
