One of my all time favorites.
A waste of 90 minutes of my life
It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
I think the plot of this movie come from manga of masumoto yokoNoriawaseta Shinigami (Evil Spirit): Miya was supposed to just take her father his lunch, but an earthquake stops the elevator she is on. Before the lights go off, a woman calls out that there is a shinigami (a grim reaper) among them, but suddenly dies before everyone is able to see where she pointed. Was the woman just crazy or is everyone's life now in grave danger?https://myanimelist.net/manga/4003/Inviting_Darknesshttp://a-lisa.exteen.com/20110311/matsumoto-yokohttp://a-lisa.exteen.com/20110312/matsumoto-yoko
Greetings from Lithuania."Devil" (2010) is a great genre movie. Genre itself here is horror, but "Devil" should be classified more like a thriller / horror movie. What i liked about this movie in a first place was its present day take on a story, in a middle of usual business day, when suddenly something very unusual starts to happen in a usual place (and yes, broken elevator i think is a usual place). I was highly involved into this story. Characters here weren't highly presented, but its not the point. I loved Detective Bowden character, he was on spot and represented counterbalance to all the supernatural things that were going on. Overall, "Devil" is a superb genre flick. It is a horror thriller mystery combination that will glue you to the screen for all its running time keeping you guessing and feel very bad about the idea to get stuck in a elevator. And according to this movie idea, it can happen anywhere. If you like these kind of movies, "Devil" is a must see. Great genre movie.
When I first started watching the movie I thought it would be like every B- horror movie with a plot line that we all could guess very easily. But to my amazement it was in a world of its own with a pretty good script, decent actors, and a good budget so that there wasn't any cheesy/cheap special effects There are my twists and turns in the movie and everyone in the elevator has something to hide deep down. The plot line was pretty good with some decent actors. My rating is 8.5/10 If you have a chance I would watch this movie
"Devil" is a horror film by director John Dowdle. It watches as a group of characters enter an elevator. These characters, we later learn, are all "sinners" and "bad people". They're thus deemed "deserving of punishment". This punishment is dished out by "the Devil", the supernatural entity that personifies evil in many religions. As these characters are tortured and killed in the elevator, police detective Bowden (Chris Messina) watches with disbelief. Though everything he witnesses points toward supernatural intervention, Bowden refuses to believe. Afterall, he's an atheist. Why? Because when his wife died due to a hit and run accident, Bowden renounced God and opted to instead believe in a totally chaotic, callous and cruel universe. The universe of Nietzsche. Of Schopenhauer.Eventually, of course, Bowden comes to believe in the Devil and so the Judeo-Christian God. He also learns that one of the characters in the elevator was the man responsible for killing his wife. Rather than condemn this man, Bowden opts to "forgive him". The film then lays its final message on thick: "bad stuff" happens to "evil people", "those who deserve it" and "those for whom God has a plan". To avoid "bad stuff" happening to us we must thus "be Christlike" and "kind" and "forgiving". Via this we will have "salvation" and "protection" from the "far-reaching arms of the devil"."Devil's" spiritual and emotional blackmailing should come as no surprise. It was based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, a fervent Christian. Indeed, the film shares many similar themes/moments with Shyamalan's "Signs". Shyamalan typically gets away with such clunky philosophising because his aesthetic - controlled, stylish and tasteful - often closely emulates that of Alfred Hitchcock. But Dowdle is no Hitchcock. Where Hitch turned tight spaces ("Lifeboat", "Rear Window", "Dial M for Murder") into clever cinematic playgrounds, Dowdle mostly fumbles.5/10 – Worth one viewing.
