An absolute waste of money
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
I, who had to sit through this sour-faced and sickeningly stupid slog of a brainless blockbuster, hated every minute of 'I, Frankenstein (2014)'. It's absolute soulless studio schlock from beginning to end, with awful action driven by muddy, nearly unbearably bad CGI actually providing release from its contrived plot that's delivered solely via painful expository dialogue seeming to reside on a nose as long as Pinocchio's. It's really, really bad and boring to boot (a stupid film that's fun is much more forgivable than something as self-serious as this). If it comes on TV, you should avert your eyes. 2/10
Everyone I see here who has left scathing reviews are basing them off the horrid marketing and trailers, not the film itself.Frankenstein's monster is used as God's instrument against the forces of hell, a surprising twist to the traditional horror tale. He's constantly proclaiming that he is his own man, but throughout the movie, you see his strange existence is only possible because The Almighty is allowing him to walk the Earth.Lacing in the mythologies of Gargoyles was a brilliant touch -- these are more than 'black-ops angels' and the actors are clearly having a blast in the roles. There is subtlety and nuance at play -- that is, IF you bother to watch the whole movie. The vivid, colorful palette and cinematography was a welcome surprise -- I expected this to be a muted, greens/blues sort of thing, but instead was treated to masterful use of lighting, set design and mood. This may be a popcorn flick, but it's a well crafted and lovely one.The only thing that falls kinda flat, is the score. Kinda forgettable. But if you're paying attention, you won't miss it.I recommend this if you can find it. Well worth a rental or a Halloween Marathon at the cinema.
Aaron Eckhart gives a competent performance, the film picks up where as The creature is laying his creator to rest. We are thrust into modern day and there are Gargoyles and Demons at war. Bill Nighy leads a group of Demons masquerading as humans. Miranda Otto you'll remember front Lord of the Rings leads the Gargoyles. The film has a unique premise, very slick stylish visual FX and lots of action if you can see it in 3D it's even better. I found it very entertaining, fun and though there are some story and dialogue issues it's easily better than average with a huge budget, a good cast that also includes Jai Courteney from Terminator Genisys, Mahesh Jadu of Marco Polo. If your a fan of Underworld or Resident Evil you should enjoy this the Gargoyle Transformations and Demon deaths are well done and I thought very original. It's never gonna be A 10 buts it's easily a 7 worth seeing great way to pass a rainy day or sleepless night
This movie features Frankenstein's monster caught in a centuries old battle between demons and gargoyles? Yeah, I don't know why they chose gargoyles. Wouldn't angels be a more appropriate antagonist for demons? I read in the credits that this was based on a comic book and I'm sure it worked much better as a comic book. The CGI in this film is simply terrible. I now realize everything was probably watered down to get a PG-13 rating. These demons don't even seem to really bleed as much as just get covered in fire. They're defeated with crosses and being impaled. Isn't that what you do with vampires? Vampires would have been a great addition to this film. Instead, we get the same old story about a neverending war fought unknown to the humans between supernatural beings. This has been done countless times before, possibly most notable in something like the "Underworld" series. It also reminds me of "Van Helsing" in that it features Frankenstein's monster trying to have his power harnessed. At least that movie also had Dracula and the Wolf Man in it. They can't even consistently name the main character. He's referred to as Adam, Frankenstein's Monster and even at the end, refers to himself as Frankenstein, which you could probably get from the title. The transformation scenes are painful and everything looks so fake.I don't think it's bad enough to merit its 3% on RottenTomatoes. It's at least more enjoyable than something like "The Covenant" which has the same score. The dialogue is predictable. I just know he's going to say that he only kills demons. Mostly because that's what we just saw him do! Do yourself a favor and watch a classic Frankenstein movie instead. *1/2
