hyped garbage
Boring
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
No idea why so many negative reviews and such a low rating overall. May be because it was a year when a few versions of the story were made for the screen? Giving it ten stars to bump the undeservingly low rating (otherwise would say it's an eight).I took my daughter to see it at the theater back when it was released. Magical, beautiful, lighthearted and funny for all ages. Lovely indeed. Julia Roberts was superb, played the role with a great deal of humor... A funny take on the prince charming character, too. Just open your heart and mind - it's a fairy tale after all, let yourself be a kid for couple hours. Anyway, we both loved it. And did i mention that my daughter was 27 at the moment?
Just saw this on TV April 2016. Loved it!!! Lots of cute humor, using modern expressions. Loved the scenery, costumes and cinematography. Nathan Lane was perfect....spot on. Great to see a different side to Ms. Roberts. The ending song, performed with a modern flare, and the accompanying music video were quite unexpected and fun to watch. This version of Snow White can be most appreciated by older adults who have grown tired of the vulgarity and villains that inhabit most movies and TV. At 56, I want a bit of positive escapism!!! Hats off to the production crew for making every detail in this movie count. I was amazed at the creativity of the sets and costumes!!!
This was one of those compromise watches where me and the Mrs could not agree on anything mutually acceptable. Must admit I was pleasantly surprised.I thought every fairy-tale had been 'spun' to death but this one -although not massively original- is very well made with an excellent cast.Julie Roberts plays an excellent evil Queen pulling off both cruel and entertaining simultaneously. The Queen has some excellent dialogue, dripping with whit and sarcasm. The scene where the queen openly asks Snow White "why is she so annoying?" is great.Lily Collins is a stunning Snow White, she plays the traditional role very well; but this take on Snow White also has a darker more subversive edge that Lily plays perfectly. It is well managed, very subtle, but definitely there.I didn't want to watch this, but I am glad I did.
At first when the movie was presented like it was going to be viewed from the queens perspective it seemed interesting. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Sure, the queen was the narrator but the movie was still about Snow whites story, not the queens'. We've seen this before and the small differences from other Snow white movies wasn't enough to be interesting. Even if it was a good end the movie contained a lot of sexism that i can't look away from. The final scene was the worst. Why end a classic fairy tale with some form of Bollywood (?) song and why put Snow white to perform it with a really bad dub? Despite all my negativity I give this movie five points. I would not recommend it to my friends but maybe a family with low demands.
