Safe Audience Reviews

MoPoshy Absolutely brilliant
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Borgarkeri A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Irishchatter Seriously you would think a film like this would be so excellent regardless of it being underrated? I mean, that's very disappointing. There was so much action and sort of storyline that you are immediately glued into. However, the ending left us confused, did he save the world or did he just save his own ***?!I never heard of Jason Statham until I saw this movie today and he is involved in a lot of other underrated action movies, why had he not improved in getting involved with better movies that will give him more stardom? Young Catherine Chan was brilliant for a little actress, that girl will prove you wrong and she's like 5 years younger then me haha! I hope she gets involved in films and becomes famous someday, she is so talented!Really, the only advantage of this movie was Catherine Chan but the rest, distasteful!
jb_campo I was looking for a movie where a down and outer overcomes the bad guys. I had heard of the Statham movies, but never watched one where he was the lone star. I had seen The Expendables, which was action hero overload. This movie was free on Prime, so I said, why not. The story line was pretty straight forward, with multiple warring factions, and Statham in the middle, having a history with all of them. Of course, he has some expert military past that is alluded to. As the story develops, he attempts to rescue himself by rescuing this little Chinese girl, Mei. Of course, this means a lot of people get killed and he does most of the killing. Statham has a pretty good screen presence, pretty cool. This movie reminded me a little of the Charles Bronson Death Wish movies, except Statham is physically much more powerful. If you want to see good kick the stuffing out of evil, with not much plot, and some exciting fighting, this will suit you fine. I wish Amazon would make other Statham movies free for Prime too - there's a very small choice at this point.
Adam Peters (64%) A 1990's action throwback with a "mercury rising" type plot involving a man helping a child who knows something that is putting their life at risk. Statham plays a more human character than the typical action movie, and just like Bruce Willis' movie there is some heart and a decent amount of characterisation to proceedings, but this still has plenty of its focus on shooting, driving, and fighting. The plot all-in-all is a bit too over- stuffed, and the action could have been handled a little better and steadier; although this is still a worthy entry to Jason's filmography and well and truly worth a look for action fans.
bob the moo A cage-fighter haunted by mobsters to the point of being suicidal is distracted from his own personal despair by a Chinese girl who seems to be being pursued by the same group. Stepping in to help her, Luke Wright finds himself drawn into a battle between several gangs and the police as everyone wants a number that she has memorized.Safe is a very odd film because it feels like the writers focused on just setting out the action scenes and it was only on the day of the shoot that someone realized they had no reason for the main character to be doing anything. The basic plot is there but Wright just seems to be whatever the film needs him to be. At first he is in despair and this is what we understand, then he needs connections to the police so it turns out he used to be a cop, then we need to believe that he is capable of what he does so we are told he is a super-soldier of some sort – and none of it makes sense. The plot really is crow barred around the action sequences and you get the feeling that the film never really believes it or cares about it either. The action is bloody but at least distracting in its violence. It is as much nonsense as the plot is though, and eventually it does get a bit tiring to see bodies dropping endlessly without any real investment from the viewer or impact on the main characters. Yakin directs with pace and energy and at least has that going for it. Statham is in odd accent mode, has some terrible lines of dialogue and never really gets his own character. He throws himself into the fights and gunplay, but he seems to have no thread to carry him through the film. Chan is not too cute, which is good, but she is a plot device. In the background countless henchmen fall and "you'll know his face" performances bulk out the main villain roles.Safe is really one for fans of Statham who will love him even in lesser films – which this is. It never convinces in the plot or characters, while the excessive action is distracting but ultimately overdoes the body count to its detriment.
