That was an excellent one.
It is a performances centric movie
What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.
Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
This movie is so fun. The fights are fun. Everything about this movie is fun to watch and great for the whole family. I have watch this movie so many times; it just makes me laugh each time. If you have not seen it. I highly recommend it. You will enjoy it. It keeps you interested and entertained. It is very entertaining. This movie is truly a classic.
Maybe a spoiler at the end....maybe. It is 2018 and this movie is now 31 years old. I am pushing 70 and have watched several thousand movies. For clean family-viewable entertainment, this has to be in almost everyone's all time top ten. Or five. Mandy Patinkin, a very fine actor, was never better than as Inigo Montoya, the Spanish swordsman. Robin Wright, barely 21, was exquisite as Buttercup. Cary Elwes has never, IMO, been quite as good as he was as Westley...but then, he was superlative as Westley, setting the bar very, very high. All of the acting ranges from good to great. The inclusion of Andre as Fezzik was random "geniusness"....it just worked, and worked oh so incredibly well. I have watched this movie many times and I still love it. The outer wrap of grandfather Peter Falk reading the story to his grandson Fred Savage takes the "Family Friendliness" rating to a fifty on a 1-10 scale. There are many, many characters to enjoy in this fanciful tale; my personal favorite has always been Inigo Montoya. The sword fight scene remains, for me, one of the finest pieces of dramatic comedy I've ever seen, no matter who was the victor.
A film with perfect casting, dialogue, acting and narrative. A perfect blend of a variety of genres, with elements of romance, comedy, (thriller/horror-like darker segments; ROUS and the pit of despair), all under the fantasy banner that holds it all together. There's something here for everyone. To anyone that hasn't seen it, it's inconcievable how good it is
I had not seen this film, until it was set as 'text' by my son's deluded English teacher. This film is OK for the small hours of the morning, if you have very low expectations - but a classic? Give me a break! Shakespeare's a classic, Dickens, Orwell, Steinbeck - all who would have turned in their graves at this abysmal, one-dimensional script writing. A Spanish character, finally enacting long sought-after revenge and what does the writer come up with? "Son of a bitch!" Really! That's the best, wittiest and most memorable line you can come up with? Come back Welles, Kurosawa, Copolla, Ford, Scott, Kubrick, Lang, Bunuel, Capra, Wyler, Curtiz, Weir, etc. SERIOUSLY SUBSTANDARD - STANDARDS ARE SLIPPING, FOLKS.
