It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Shawn Levy the director of the first movie in the series, returns... to steal us another 1 hour 45 minutes of life. If you want to see the big baby Ben Stiller as spanking with two little monkeys, the ass of Amy Adams how it goes around the museum and many other happenings that children under 10 do not appreciate anymore, it's your choice. Is it comedy? You will not laugh at all! Is it a movie for children? Probably, between 0 and 3 years. But they will be scared of the giant octopus and the dinosaur skeleton.
Night At The Museum was a great movie. The idea was genuine and it was a pleasure to discover all the great characters in human history coming back to life and transform the New York Museum of Natural History into a very big mess. But this sequel lost a lot of its magic mostly because of a bad written plot. The scriptwriters probably thought that moving the story into the biggest museum in the world and adding dozens of new characters would keep us entertained. But you need much more to achieve it. From the beginning. Larry, who we left as an ordinary man, now is a powerful and tyrannic CEO who pushes his staff to cancel their family place to make business. He's also manipulating his lamp like Bruce Lee. Why did they do that? Why not just keeping Larry as a continued night guard having fun at each shift when the museum came alive? Thankfully there are some characters who are really enjoyable to see like the lovely Amy Adams, who stars as Amelia Earhart, the first woman who crossed the Atlantic Ocean with her plane. She really steals the show throughout the movie. The other one is the villain, Kahmunrah, played by Hank Azaria, the evil twin brother of Ahkmenrah who wants to steal the tablet in order to rule the World. Azaria, who also voice the Thinker and President Lincoln, is really showing his huge talent as a comedian. Anyway I'm deceived to not see Robin Williams as much as I did in the first movie. It would have been great to see him throughout the entire movie instead of some scenes there and there. In brief, this movie is not as good as the first one but it's still worth to watch in Family.
Yes, I know its a fantasy kid's movie and therefore gets a greater degree of leeway when it comes to plot-holes and over the top events. But this.....this......THIS.... was beyond anything you could possibly imagine. Simply the WORST writing I have witnessed for many a moon. The first film had a certain charm. No, it was very far from a masterpiece, but it was somewhat engrossing and humorous for the most part. The sequel, however, was corny, stupid, illogical, absurd, confused, erratic and worst of all, boring. How did the writers of this abomination ever screw it up so bad? Did they become addicted to meth between the first and last film? Were they under instructions to write the worst story possible...............as a joke, (often referred to as the "Wimp Lo" method)?I rarely write film reviews.....but this one was so painful to watch that I felt I had no choice.. Even my 10yr old kid spotted plot holes. Yep.....when a 10yr old starts spotting plot holes, you know the film is in trouble.1/10
The first film was far from spectacular, but it was tolerable and a bit of fun to watch. I came across the second movie when it was shown on television and its terrible. It has been done once and wasn't brilliant, the producers really shouldn't have bothered with number two. The whole film is filled with terrible far-fetched acting. Every line just tries to include a joke that is not even remotely funny and frankly, leaves me with a blank expression on my face the whole time. The whole movie is just "trying too hard". Too see some pretty famous faces in it, is a shame as it is a real downfall in their career. i'm surprised I actually ended up watching the whole movie, maybe I was hoping it would get better. Evidently not! It is saying something when you are watching this movie with kids and they even turn round to you and say "Is this meant to be funny?" 1/10
