Just what I expected
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Movie Review: "Wild Card" (2015)Actor Jason Statham delivers in a tailored action-character role as Nick Wild as one of Las Vegas common inhabitants, seeking a glorious exit with an hardship-calculated money-amount of so-believed eternal bliss, when Wild blows his chance gets into trouble with the usual suspect gang, alongside glamorous supports from actress Sofía Vergara over Dominik Garcia-Lorido to always upscaling Stanley Tucci under the fast-tracked direction of "Con Air" approved director Simon West, when this 85-Minute movie brings the goods for a quick take of entertainment and leading man in best form to enjoy with no strings attached in two excellent-executed because precisely-chereographed as elegantely captures gun-hand-gun combat scenes with sharp-edged twist of splendid slow-motion shots much to portfolio benifits for capable as talented cinematography Shelley Johnson, elevating this action-drama to be a "Wild Card" in motion pictures indeed. © 2018 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
When a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal skills and a gambling problem gets in trouble with the mob, he has one last play...and it's all or nothing. Wild Card might not be as bad as many might think but it's one of Statham's most forgettable films and even tho the Cast looks promising and does deliver in certain parts and the limited action is great the film feels conflicted threw a mediocre script that goes from fight scenes, to humor to poker and back again. Plus some actors like Tucci and Vergara get limited screen time which is bad because good talent gets wasted and overall the movie drags at times as well which makes it hard to sit threw the whole damn thing. Overall Wild Card has some great limited fight sequences, a great cast and Statham who is great as he is always but the end result is a forgettable Simon West Action Flick that didn't live up to expectations plus the man made Con-Air and The Expendables 2 so there's no excuse for this movie to be mediocre. (6/10)
The one true merit of this film is the unusual feeling it gives to you. It goes deep. Deep, that it is hard to recognize it at first. Soon, it starts growing into an overwhelming feeling, but it shifts back into a comfortable feeling at the very right time and alleviates the intensity. The balance of this and its originality makes the film very memorable, in contrast with some other films in which the feelings become very burdensome and make you suffer.Cinematography was adequate, could notice some pleasing to the eye shots. Nonetheless, there were no memorable cinematography parts. Didn't feel any discomfort because of editing. The text at the beginning looked great. Fight scenes were comfortable to watch (in a way that it is good). I am a big fan of Jason Statham, his acting and accent, so I enjoyed his show. The main detriment of this film is the ending. I sometimes have a hard time understanding deep movies, but here it felt like the ending was a drive for the whole plot to continue. Sadly, it ended there. It didn't convince me that Nick had found a solution to his life. One minute I was going to give this film a 9/10, but the other this minus changed everything instantly. Another negative aspect of this movie is its lack of little details that relate throughout the movie. I find them very pleasant and it makes the movie look rich. Nevertheless, the movie has some interesting quotes. Lastly, many characters were introduced in the story and all of those people had decisive influence to the plot. The drawback is that there were only a very brief or no insight about the reason of their relationship with Nick. Many unrevealed side stories made the film lack reason.Overall, I assigned the movie a high value mostly because of the uniqueness in the taste, feeling and because of the adequate execution of film making.
This movie only got 6 out of 30 million budget, now I'm gonna tell you how this movie fail. I watch this movie know nothing about Goldman's novel, because I'm Asian. Never heard of it at all. I watch this film because I love Jason Statham's action movie. Who don't like him, I mean every action movie lover might like him, maybe a bit. But this movie, they try to give him some dramatic character, just like his weird character in "The Revolver" (2005) by Guy Ritchie. Its not good, this is not him. Maybe he tries to do some new character but just don't, he cant, fighting is his forte and he is really good at it. All the stuff about his gambling addict and annoying kid name Cyrus looks like out of place in this movie, unnecessary additional. They should focus on his case with DeMarco. Maybe everything will turned out really well if they got a good script, but looks like Statham's development for 5 years (he said) come out fail. Its like when you ask DiCaprio to do some action- martial-art movie. We love what you always do, don't listen to any of the critics, they just want you to become like Meryl Streep. Everybody have their own way. Stick at what you good at. Wanna take risk? Only if you know you can.
