Nice effects though.
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a film that helped to found an entirely new genre of films and even in present day is one of the best films of its kind. My dad described it as being a one-of-a-kind experience seeing it in theaters and I can't over-exaggerate how jealous of him I am. This film for me is a film that, as cheesy as it sounds, has honestly effected me not only as a filmmaker but as a person and it is part of the reason I want to be a filmmaker. What Steven Spielberg and George Lucas created was not only a fun adventure film, it is also a technical movie marvel that accomplished things and did new things that helped to make this film truly an icon of American cinema. From the elaborate set pieces to the relatable, compelling characters, this film's narrative pulls the audience in and captures their attention, not letting go until the end credits begin to scroll. Harrison Ford further cements his place in cinematic history as one of the most iconic and beloved actors of all time, perfectly balancing Jones' nerdy, professor-like tendencies with his more daring and adventurous side, all the while being the lovable rogue audiences were first introduced to in his breakout role as Han Solo in George Lucas' Star Wars. Karen Allen plays Jones' first love and partner Marion Ravenwood and she does a great job in her own right of not only keeping up with Jones but also coming into her own as a badass character too. There are a few instances where the animation and choreography fail to stand the test of time but these moments are few and far between and do little to take the audience out of the film. Facing one of the most evil forces in the history of the world, the Nazis, Indiana fights to keep their evil from spreading across the globe with the help of the holy artifact. Supported by a cast of solid secondary characters and put up against enemies easy to hate, Indiana navigates one of his greatest adventures with the help of his friends and his pure stubbornness in the belief that all great artifacts belong in a museum. This film is a must watch for anyone who enjoys movies and it is for good reason that it is considered to be one of the greatest and most iconic American films in the history of filmmaking.
