The sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard has travelled thousands of miles from El Paso to Tijuana, along the growing wall that separates Mexico and the United States. A man-made metal membrane that makes its own sounds and whose steel wires sing in the wind as it stretches across the landscape from the desert to the sea. In his meditative video and sound work, Kirkegaard has mounted microphones on and around the wall to understand its dual character as a militant monument and abstraction. Both panoramas and close-ups show us that this, at first sight, deserted area of south-western USA has its own life of light and shadow – and not least sound.

In the summer of 2019, a group of youths from Syria, Turkey, England and Denmark meet up for a two-week theatre workshop in Antalya. Here, they are given the task of staging human rights in a collective performance. First, they must agree on how to interpret the rights, both artistically and politically – and then it suddenly makes a difference if you come from Syria or Denmark, even if you are not aware of it yourself. The director Camille Bildsøe observes with an attentive presence how empathy and tolerance come about during the process. And, not least, how both can make an active difference in the real world.

A day like any other day: without medication, or perhaps better with? A film like the investigation of an uncertainty principle: do we really see better with a magnifying glass? A face scratched out of the family album: the gap is draped with flowers and cut-out pictures of clothes and finally filled again by a drawing.

Trapped in a room and suffering from unknown noises and fears, I meet and talk with Goyuhan Seon and Violet J, who are suffering from schizophrenia, the same mental problems as me. These two were swimming in this world in their own way and at their own pace. Our stories drifted separately with our individual notes, but they encounter each other and are eventually completed as one melody.

But an experience that took place in the peculiar situation in which the whole of Italian culture found itself in the days between the first and second wave of the pandemic, when it really seemed possible to restart and the feeling of euphoria was accompanied by the illusion that the worst was behind us. Once again we were suddenly checked in our desire for beauty, for life.

Proprietor Yamane-san has survived four bouts of cancer and has run his cafe for close to forty-five years. He makes a mean pizza toast with a unique cutting style. Pizza toast is a staple of kissa culinary culture.

How I Like It
In Pakistan, the public space is dominated by men. The confidence with which they walk the streets or weight train quickly disappears once they are confronted with female sexuality. Off-screen, several anonymous women talk about their sexuality. The images of the conventional partiarchal society are in sharp contrast to the liberating explicitness of the accounts of clit stimulation, sex with multiple partners, pissing, abortions, and rape.
