The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
I absolutely loved this film, it hit home with me with my real life. Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammar was absolutely magical together.
Rogen was a horrible choice. He ruined the movie for me. With so many other talented actors out there, you'd think that they could've done better for the cost.
Like FatherThe downside to a honeymoon on a boat is that the sex usually involves a Roman shower.Luckily, the bride in this comedy is honeymooning with her estranged father. After workaholic Rachel (Kristen Bell) is jilted at the church she drowns her misery in a booze-fuelled night out with her deadbeat dad (Kelsey Grammer), who she hasn't seen in years. Under the influence of alcohol, she decides to take her honeymoon cruise. But instead of going alone she invites her parent. After some chopping waters, the pair soon bond over karaoke. Rachel even finds a new love interest (Seth Rogan).Distributed by Netflix, this debut film from Seth Rogan's wife, Lauren Miller, is a joyless family reunion void of laughs. When it's not moonlighting as a movie-of-the-week, it's serving as a paid advertisement for Royal Caribbean Cruises.Besides, the only cruise line that really caters to incestuous marriages is Carnival. I like Kristen Bell, but her character in this was just annoying, obnoxious and selfish! An obsessed workaholic is pretty much all there was to her personality. Who the hell makes a work call, as they're about to go down the aisle or spends more time on her phone sending emails than enjoying a cruise?? There were quite a few odd things about this movie, but the main annoying part was that there just wasn't much to the storyline. I didn't really feel much of a chemistry between her and her estranged Father, but I guess that at least was real...if a Father had walked out on you at 5 years old, you wouldn't have a bond, so this was at least realistic. There are some heartwarming moments which were good, but overall I just wasn't that impressed. It also wasn't nearly as funny as I expected it to be either.
