Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I saw this in the DVD store and thought I'd take a chance. Wayne Brady cracks me up and Sydney was amazing in Death Proof. I mean it looks like it was shot low budget but the script is really tight, funny and has a lot of insight. The goofy interaction between Wayne and his best pal Flex Alexander had me rolling on the floor. OK- Brad Dourif as an Italian Lothario is so miscast it goes full circle and is worth watching just to see him try it. There's a huge number of talented well known supporting actors such as Illeana Douglas and Matthew Glave that make the movie very entertaining. Above all, in this day and age when everyone feels they need to be snide and sarcastic on screen, this is a really sincere and moving film about relationships. Thumbs up!

A great 3rd date DVD to rent or buy! It has it all: romance, humor, a nice twist and surprise ending. On top which it is thought provoking and a story everyone can relate to. What really worked for me is that it does not deal in racial stereotypes. People of any race could have played the lead roles, it's about people addressing life issues and it's a hell of a fun "boy meets girl", "boys loses girl" ride... Wayne Brady started to read the script on the plane, as soon as he landed he called his agent to accept the role. Apparently Sidney Poitier was really rooting for his daughter Sydney to play the co- lead. If that is not a thumbs up, nothing is!

Lewis (Wayne Brady) is a very successful advertising executive. Since he comes from a humble background, this is commendable. But, truly, Lewis works very hard, constantly makes "lists" of goals and bringing them to fruition. Unfortunately, he thinks this will also work in the romance department, for he has written down the criteria for his ideal woman. One day, believing he has found this particular lady, Lew proposes on a local television show. The scheme backfires! The female in question proceeds to tick off why Lewis is not HER ideal man, much to his sorrow. Nevertheless, he doesn't grieve long, for into his world comes a mysterious, lovely lass, Cecile (Sydney Tamiia Portier). On their first date, he astonished to find himself singing a duet with her, at a karaoke bar. Not only that, its a song from his favorite singer, Marvin Gaye. Cecile also likes hockey, video games and other stuff he is partial to as well. But, could it be that someone has set Lewis up, that is, coached a woman on winning his heart, without sincerity? Say it ain't so! This was a nice romcom for the genre's many fans. The two stars, Brady and Portier, do a fine job and the rest of the cast, which includes Ileana Douglas, supports them well. Be aware, though, that the script, which has many touching moments, also sports a few explicitly sexual scenes and references. If this matters to you, look for something else. On the other hand, the costumes, sets, and amenities are very worthy, with Portier looking gorgeous at every turn. So, if you love your romcoms, add this one to your list. Like it you almost certainly will.

Two stars for having fly Tatyana Ali and fly Sydney Potier. Wayne Brady was not funny at all in this movie. And Flex wasn't either. I should have known from the beginning that when Wayne Brady's character got dissed by Tatyana Ali's character after he proposed and he bumped into the waitress that it was Sydney Poitier's character. This movie had a lot of plot twists and a very predictable ending. Wayne Brady's character ended up with the woman that he was trying to get with the entire movie! But she was lying to him the entire movie. And look out for a very unfunny Malcolm Jamal Warner playing the stupid soon to be ex husband who is addicted to his cell phone.
