First off, I admire Dame Dash. His honesty is a breath of fresh air. He has the mind of a genius. This film had the potential to be a classic. The only reason I'm doing a review...I would hope Dame will see this and apply it to future films. first, the movie should have cast younger actors. Men in their late 40's were not "right" for their roles. Maybe later in the film, using older characters would have been more convincing. Second, the commentary throughout the entire movie was overbearing to say the least. A well written script would not have required play by play commentary throughout the entire film. I felt like I was watching a pro football game,,,the commentator (dame) was explaining every scene. A more detailed script would have reduced commentary significantly. Thirdly, Waaaaaay too many shoot'em up scenes. Shooting scenes seemed like space fillers to make up for a lack of content. Film quality was good...Film quality carried the characteristics of a bigger budget film. In closing, the film had the potential to be a 7, possibly a "hood classic". But it missed the mark. Good luck on the next one Dame, I watch all your videos and consider all the advice you offer. You spread the knowledge and the love. Much respect!

I think there was a different movie in mind in the beginning of the film but as the story line progressed everything began to fall in to place.

I don't know where to begin. This film seems like the creator Damon Dash just wants to make a movie because he can. This film is filled with narration from Mr. Dash explaining things in the film instead of showing anything. Constant slow motion gun fights with music/opera playing. The story just shows generic themes and Mr. Dash's narration paints it however he intends without actually showing you anything. He obviously just put in friends/family/associates as cast just to keep it mostly in house. There are a couple real actors but mostly just people with no acting training that are just associates of Mr Dash. The movie is probably 60 percent slow motion gun fights and 30 percent narration with maybe 10 percent of actual story. With the exception of paid in full which Mr Dash did not direct or write, any movie Dame Dash is involved with is film school amateur class at best. I cannot recommend this movie to anyone, not even super fans of the genre. Its that bad.
