Timmy Taylor and his two friends, Stevie and Buddy capture escaped convict Carl Banks (Jim Varney) and hold him hostage in their treehouse over the weekend so that Timmy can use Carl as his current event project at school on Monday. The boys then find that Carl is mixed up in a counterfeiting ring that could spell trouble for them too.

To me, this movie is perfection.
The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
This film has a hilarious story, great acting (Jim Varney from the 'Earnest' films makes a major character appearance, Louan Gideon, who was Danielle Atron on The Secret World of Alex Mack plays the role of Mrs. Stevens, etc.), and it does have some genuinely funny jokes. The story was really different, the tale of a lazy kid, Timmy, who holds escaped convict Carl hostage to bring to his teacher for a Current Events class - if he fails his project, Mrs. Stevens will place him in summer school, much to the joy of his school principal, Ott "the Snot", a sadistic guy who doesn't seem to like kids at all. However, Timmy doesn't expect to befriend Carl.Overall not a bad kids' film, but all the fart jokes got on my nerves. Those jokes were lame, disgusting and definitely not creative by any stretch of the imagination. Some of the characters were really annoying too, like Buddy (what's the purpose of him other than just to be generally gross?) If all the flatulence jokes were removed, or at least cut down, I would have liked it a lot more.
I like this movie and I thought that this was the best Jim Varney movie yet I've seen. I liked this movie SO much that I asked for it for Christmas and watched it over and over and over again and yet I still like it. My favorite part is the tree house Court scene and when Carl escapes. I thought that both of those scenes were absolutely hilarious. Don't ask me how I got to be A Treehouse hostage fan. It's Jim Varney. I don't know how I got a Jim Varney fan I'm glad to be a fan of Jim Varney and all of his movies. I will still like this movie for a very long time and nothing will take that away from me. And I really mean that.
I am the father of a six year old boy and he loves this film. I even like watching it when my son is not with me. I recommend that every parent buy this movie. It will likely be more attractive to boys but I challenge you as a parent to rent it and watch it. It could easily be qualified to be a Disney film (Obviously Disney had nothing to do with it, just that it is a great wholesome movie).
I hate this movie, it just bothers me. My little brother loves it and makes me watch it all the time and I am soo sick of it. It's probably a good movie for a little kid but is boring to mature people. I love Jim Varny, but he wastes his talent in this.
