Excellent, Without a doubt!!
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
So yeah, it's 9 years after it's release, And the Real Cancun has received so many awful reviews that I felt like I needed to write something in it's favor. I first saw it 8 years ago, and back then I was actually quite taken with the concept, the atmosphere and the depiction of people in Cancun during spring break. Whether it was real or not was not an issue for me, as it showed me a spring break, without the 'Girls Gone Wild' main theme of debauchery and depravity. Sure, those things exist in the movie, but to me it seems that even though the movie was sort of 'unscripted' and 'reality based', the editing was done wonderfully. As I mentioned in the beginning of my review - I first saw it 8 years ago. So now that I'm sadly much older, in age and state of mind as well, I re-watched the movie - as I'm about to go on vacation to Cancun. So yeah, the first charm of the movie did not hold as it did so many years ago when I gave it 8/10, but it still wasn't as bad IMHO as other reviews would depict it and I gave it 6/10. All in all - either you're waaaaayyy too old to watch it, or way too young - The MTV generation would actually enjoy this one.
Despite all the nasty reviews of what I concede, is a stupid teen film, there are inherent lessons to be gleaned from the movie. The fact is, casual sex does not necessarily make people happy, or you will lose the right woman you really like if you engage in reckless casual sex. What wins out at the end of the day is love, and connecting with someone above a booty call.It happens that one of the shy characters did not go on to have wanton casual sex, but you sort of sympathized with him for some reason because you could see that he was really trying. He never drank alcohol, and seemed that he was not connecting with the ladies at the beginning of the trip, while other guys were having casual sex left, right, and center. At the end of the movie, this is one of the only cast that has expressed absolutely no regrets about the trip.He eventually hooked up with a meaningful relationship, and seemed to get more meaning with opposite sex interactions then his other wild counterparts. Incidentally, he did not have sex with anyone in the movie. In other words, this movie shows, that having a relationship with someone, without sex, is something much richer and fulfilling than just wild casual sex and booty calls. It also shows that the shy guys does have a chance to score on girls in the right environment. So, all shy guys out there, do not give up hope, the right girl is waiting for you somewhere. Now, the reason for this low rating is first of all, it is not a reality movie, as it was supposed to be. It is full of junk. If I did not get that one ounce of meaning from the movie, I would have to conclude the movie has no merits. I believe, that lesson I gleaned from the movie, was not intended, and probably I read into the movie further than I should have and inflating the worth of what is inherently pop culture garbage. So, I give it three stars, which I think is fair.
The Real Cancun may not be a Oscar winner, but it made its point. The Real Cancun was actually quite a good movie. In the end you wanted Allan to get some! You actually felt for these people. And no Im not some middle aged man staring at the little girls, I'm in the same age bracket as the Actors. I am not a fan of reality shows, but this one was definately worth the look.
Wow. I haven't read anyone else's comments yet since I've seen this movie, but I'm assuming they're mostly pretty bad since this was rated "two-point-something". I thought this movie was great! I know people are complaining about it since people seem to hate seeing something new. Also, I'd say there are probably lots of females complaining (as well as female-like males) since this movie portrays a fun side of girls that many like to neglect. What's great about this movie is it's reality. The viewer knows that all this actually happened and wasn't scripted. Although there was editing by New Line Cinema, such as music and cutting out the boring parts, there's no reason to complain because this made the movie more enjoyable.Maybe one day all movies will be based on the reality of an American Spring Break! ;)
