One of my all time favorites.
Just perfect...
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
I will say that this movie had potential, but director and writer Hasraf Dulull seemed to make a wide swing that ended up as an even bigger miss. The storyline built up nicely enough to a certain point where the robotic astronaut was sent through the wormhole, then it just all came undone and the movie went into a stale mode where nothing happened and it seemed pointless from there and to the very ending. The acting in the movie was adequate, although I can't really point at anyone as being more memorable than others. But it was nice to see a cast ensemble of primarily unfamiliar faces performing on the screen. The special effects were good, though they really served little effort to pull up the movie in overall. Not the best of sci-fi movies available, especially taking into consideration that this is a 2017 release. And it is highly doubtful that you will ever watch this movie more than once, if you even get through it the first time that is.
A little 2001:, a little Contact with a dash of Interstellar and Arrival. The Beyond tells a story about how we as a species might react to the discovery or confirmation of intelligent life. Its not the the typical Hollywood fare. The Beyond paints a picture of how we could interact with another life form and the kinds of technologies we would need to develop to do so. The documentary style works for me because it seems like how it might happen. Its not about action or lasers or the hero that saves the day. The action in this movie is the wormhole and the formation of new planets. The heros in this film are scientist and astronauts. People who put their lives on the line to pioneer new discoveries. To me, its a smart movie that won't work for everyone but it sure worked for me.
I was drawn in to the mystery and curiosity the film develops. It does it quite well with it's documentary style interviews. Some actors are better than others here, but nothing upsets the immersion and interest. The Beyond reveals the truth of events in a decent enough surprise. But then it adds another event which feels rather weak and tacked on. The whole film feels very dreamy and superficial at times, but hangs in there thanks to the documentary style which adds some reality aspects. It's not a bad film by all means, but it's build up peaks at delivering something with impact, depth and substance. Instead it goes on rather weak ideals and a suggested helping hand which could lead some viewers to feel rather disappointed.
This movie really gave me the chance to experience a potential real ET phenomena. Not improbable aliens with eyes, legs and humanoid body( what we use see all the time), but entities BEYOND our small narrow mindset capacity to describe or understand. For the first time i felt like real, how could be totally vertiginous being in contact with someone you cannot define, overcame, control, just too different and extremely much more extended of what we are, this movie so far is the only one could give me this feeling. Great job!
