Sorry, this movie sucks
A Disappointing Continuation
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
The writing and acting is so dismally poor, they attempt to tackle some 'risque' themes. Some scenes are genuinely anti Semitic and homophobic, because there is zero comedy within the scenes to create some kind of humourous challenge it just comes of as genuinely offensive. I am actually genuinely amazed it got through any kind of production or review...
I feel like I have to defend this film. This movie was fantastic and the people that are saying otherwise simply did not understand it. Yes, the film has what can be seen as some "stupid" lines but I just think that is the type of humor they were going for. This movie is extra dramatic to exaggerate the high school experience and for humor purposes. Obviously most high schoolers don't go around taking 40-50 selfies at a time or only talk in text abbreviations but social media is a huge thing in high schools now and it seemed to me that the writers were poking fun at that idea, not encouraging it. Then on top of the comedy, they managed to have a good underlying message. Also, I can agree that some of the acting needed work but the main character, Cole (Joel Courtney) did a fantastic job at playing a high schooler who is pissed off at the world and I applaud his performance.
For a teen movie, this movie misunderstands teenagers more than any other movie I have ever seen. The movie keeps on throwing around terms that no one has ever said, namely "Pidge" (???), and demonstrates actions and characters that at times, don't even feel human. Everything is highly exaggerated, the gay guy is super gay, the Jewish guy is super Jewish, etc. The majority of the movie is focused around a goal that seems to change every 5 minutes. The characters are inconsistent, the adults are awful people, and the script is boring and does not feel like it understands anything a person has ever said. This movie has no moral, other than, betray your friends or become a stereotype. The only thing I can give this movie is that certain actors did the best they could, and you can sometimes tell what is happening but it does not redeem this heap of cliche, stereotype, misunderstanding, and awful writing.
Everyone is giving so much hate towards this film but the thing your all forgetting is that 13-16 year olds are watching this so they might enjoy it and I think it's a film that teens will enjoy
