Fantastic!
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
IN KEEPING WITH what had become the norm for their cartoon shorts, the Disney Studio once again have placed Mickey, Donald and Goofy in a situation that can only be called that of a comedy team. Although they are light years apart in their approach to comedy, this Cartoony threesome is the animated equivalence to the likes of THE RITZ BROTHERS or THE THREE STOOGES.ALTHOUGH THE CONCEPT of team is certainly central to these short subjects, the production team always manages to get the 'boys' separated and placed them into some very precarious predicaments. This policy gave each character the opportunity to shine in his own, unique fashion. The practice also was very influential in giving each his own starring series.THERE IS ONE aspect of the Disney shorts that other studios' output didn't seem to possess, even a smidgen worth. That is a short cartoon from Walt Disney during this period always was pushing the envelope just a little bit more. This is in evidence with improvements in character design, more elaborate backgrounds and the refinement of gags employed; especially with their relationship with specific characters and the situations that they were put in. The music also became more and more specialized and tailor made to back-up the on screen antics.AS FOR THE story, LONESOME GHOSTS is pretty standard in its basic premise. A team of parapsychologists advertise that they will do whatever it takes to extricate whatever shades are infesting one's domicile. The three are hoodwinked themselves by a group of rather bored spirits; who use the telephone to bring Mickey, Don and the Goof to their haunts for some lively sport. (Or is 'lively' the wrong adjective to use here?) THE PICTURE IS directed by Burt Gillett, who received no credit; although he was the one who sat in the director's chair for THREE LITTLE PIGS. He also left Disney shortly thereafter to take charge of a series of Rainbow Parade cartoons for Van Bueren Studios and RKO.THIS NEW ARRANGEMENT didn't last too long; so we could say that Gillette had a close shave. Isn't that right, Schultz?
Alrighty, now this here is just one of those timelessly magical and special Disney shorts that generally everybody always loves, and with very good reason, it is brilliant! The gorgeously rich animation of it - just look at the incredible detail that's been poured into that snow-covered haunted house, it's beautiful! The tremendously fun chemistry between the three Disney legends is especially strong and helps to make this great and one of my favourites, second only to "Mickey and the Beanstalk." And last, but absolutely not the least is the bumbling quartet of adorable ghosts who really make this short, and who between them create a manic atmosphere that's spooky, but fun spooky as all they wanna do is have a good time! Their red Rudolph-like noses are so festive and cheerful! They can create a little tidal wave in my house any day! I love the impressive transparent effect of the phantom's animation as well as their strange echoing voices which I didn't have any problems understanding. They're certainly a lot more cuddly than the rattling ghouls from "The Skeleton Dance", which has got to be the ultimate Gothic cartoon. And although I thought Skeleton Dance was a great animation I also found it to be a little too grim and Somewhat disturbing. In my opinion it was too dark for its own good and didn't have any sense of fun and lightness to it, and I don't think some people liked that, but it was how I felt about it, and you've always got to be honest when you do these things, so... Sorry, went a bit off topic there! Anyway this beauty's a whole other story. This short manages to create some very interesting and distinctive sight gags in regard to the ghost's abilities to appear and disappear, and go straight through walls and such, I especially like the gag where they all march and play the tune of the Revolutionary War! The ghosts are not the brightest bunch, and the ending is pretty illogical considering what they are, but it sure makes for one hilarious and highly memorable scene! Such a fun classic little masterpiece, marvelous, absolutely marvelous.
This one features Donald, Mickey and Goofy in one of the more famous and memorable shorts. The trio come to a haunted house, as they are ghost exterminators—but the ghosts have other plans themselves! They plan on scaring the three and putting an end to their business. While this looks very possible, a little mixup at the end involving flour turns the day in favor of our heroes. This is a gorgeously animated cartoon—with some of the very best color animation you'll find in a Disney short—with vibrant colors and amazingly beautiful backgrounds. It's simply one of the best looking shorts Disney made. As for the story, it's wildly creative, full of nice gags and fun. What's not to like about this film?!
Just like all the short Walt Disney cartoon this one is fun. If you have nothing to do those cartoons are good enough to watch. They will even give you a few laughs. In a way it is all funny, but it is all the same as well. 6/10.
